Hi BYOND Staff,
I thought I should post this here because I don't know where else to go since you can talk about anything here...
My key was banned from the forums and which was unbanned 1 or 2 days ago and you said I didn't read the templates for Classified Ads and that's why you banned me... But yesterday I had made an ad which contained the whole template procedure, but my ad was deleted when I came online today and saw it. My question is... Why?

Yes, that isn't allowed. Anime games are fangames. The following is shown when making a new topic in Classified Ads:
"DO NOT make posts for projects which knowingly make use of copyrighted material or another person's intellectual property without their permission. (This means fangames and other such projects)" While you are allowed to make a fangame (at your own (small) risk), you're not allowed to make a Classified Ads topic about it. You'd have to seek the help you need elsewhere. |
Whoa... That sucks... But how come so many people still do it...? Or have done it in the past?
Edit: And where would you advise me to get such help/skill I need without using the help of making ads? |
People still do it because they do not read the guidelines.
People have done it before because this rule wasn't always stated. |

Unless of course Foomers attitude is "screw you, that's your problem" which I'm beginning to think it is. You may think not supporting them will get rid of them, but these fans are endless. You either swallow your pride and do little things that will truly separate them from this community or spend the rest of your time here answering/deleting the same questions over and over. |

Or we could reply to it once, lock the thread and delete any other posts with the same questions. If they continue to ask, send them a warning and request they use the forum search in future. And I suppose, just to be nice, directly link to the thread we locked on the subject. |

<s><sarcasm></s> Because it's GOOD moderation to force forum searches. <s></sarcasm></s> Why yes! Yes it is! If the same question has popped up hundreds of times (refering mostly to Dev How-To and Code-Problems), why should people be forced to answer the question again, when there is plenty of material on the question to be found? Or are you just that little bit bitter because you were told to use forum searches instead? Never the less, the functionality is provided so people don't end up answering the same question over and over again. If more people used the forum search instead of making new posts, the world would be a happier place. |

Foomer doesn't have control over forum settings. Talk to Tom. I tried to have the fangame thing in bold red, but some people complained that it was unreadable, so it didn't happen. The primary reason for the no fangames rule in Classifieds is that we're trying to improve the face of the community so that it will appeal to serious developers, and having a classifieds forum jam-packed with "need coder 4 naruto game!" ads just plain looks bad. I don't object to people building fangames. Some fangames are actually pretty fun, even if I personally hate the anime-based ones regardless of anything. But is clears up a lot of ugly clutter if they're not asking for help in Classifieds. If they want some help here, they can build something original for a change. |

<sarcasm> Because it's GOOD moderation to force forum searches. </sarcasm> Actually its good sense on the part of the forum user, but unfortunately there isn't much of that around here. The ideal solution, in my opinion, would be to have locked threads at the top of the forum page, where rules, FAQs and very important changes can be posted for all to see. But unfortunately some of the people in charge seem to be afraid that the forums will end up with 20 "stickied" messages filling up the front page of each forum. |

A small "stickies" section that you can scroll through could clear that mess up quickly. Speaking of that, I wonder what are the whereabouts of the Developer FAQ. |

Perhaps there should be a newbie help thread in every discussion
containing rules/places of interest/other important things |
If it was deleted, then it must have broken the site's and/or Classified Ads' rules, be it the template or not. Perhaps you were making a topic about something like a fangame? These aren't allowed.
