What is the ratio on BYOND between fangames and original games? I know it seems like there are more fangames than original games, but I've counted out around 100 game hubs and it seems like there are an equal amount of both.

There are currently 2,590 game hubs listed. Just from random browsing, it looks to be about a 1:3 original to fan games. For every original game hub created, 3 fan game hubs are created. Of course, many of these never actually had games, or are no longer available to play. I think the ratio of polished original games to polished fan games is the opposite, though. So all in all, the sheer numbers of fan games is offset by the amount of incomplete or unfinished games they produce, while original games tend to reach a polished state more often, even though they're not as popular.

Anyone ever consider the feature of having dead or abandoned hub links have an expiration date? If it never achieved a certain rank or status and remained untouched for a certain amount of time(including by the players), say a year or two) it would be automatically removed from the hub until consent of the owner of whoever is in charge.
I see many benefits with this move; A cleaner byond, better search results from a bad search engine, etc. |

Alot of people have stored there game sources in the hub for use later on even though they might have touched it for 4 years they might, bad move.
[EDIT] also the game/s i bought with my byond dimes 4 years ago would be gone becuase no one has touched it? http://www.byond.com/hub/RaeKwon/TechnakiCode Although its already gone due to the Owners decision. |

When the hub expires it wouldn't be deleted, it simply just wouldn't add to the collection of garbage. An immediate alert would feed the developer information such as "Hub has expired: This hub is not on public display as before, would you like to renew it?". |

Upon notice the blue byond logo would become the only red thing on the site. Edit: In the alert you'd be linked to the notice informing you about the hub expiration. Just renew it and they'd all be back. |

The hub is ending im not online the hub has ended i cannot access it therefore i cannot download what i paid for. Thats like shutting down a members blog because he/her hasn't been on it for awhile. Stating a fact ^ don't take it seriously. |

Heh, it's like whenever you present an alternative people are shocked, then you're hit with of all these crazy scenarios that can be solved by clicking a single button. |

A.T.H.K wrote: I'd be inclined to expire hubs that have no real content - no download link or anything. Games that can be downloaded should not be removed. Since each hub address is unique to its created, there's no reason why an expired hub address couldn't be recreated later. In the mean time, though, it wouldn't appear on hub searches where it would just take up space. I don't if it would be difficult for BYOND's server to keep track of when each game last appeared live, but if that's no trouble, then just remove entries that have no download and haven't been hosted in over a year. |
