Anybody know where to download a free level editor for 3D games? Or heck, a tutorial on how to make one?
I'm trying to find one, so I can make a FPS (don't any of you even dare to send me to that stupid 5 minute FPS maker).

I recommend looking into map making and modding for games like HL2 and UT3. They are about as close as you are going to get to creating commercial games for free and easily. Both of which can be bought for less than $50, and come with free map and mod making tools. Don't expect to get rich from making a mod, but it's a great foot into the door of game design.

I've already tried modding for HL2, and it's not what I need. |
Please explain how it isn't what you needed. HL2(and UT3) give you nearly limitless power to change and update, allowing you to create a new game, should you want to put that much effort into it. And I hate to break it to you, but your not going to find an easier solution.
If you are planning on making a commercial game, you aren't going to find a tutorial to tell you how. It's a very, very complicated, even with shortcut tools like the XNA. |

The Source SDK's Hammer World Editor is not what I needed, because it has... limitations... Also, I wanted to make a game (not a mod) that could get me and my friend that is working on this game with me noticed by a big company, hopefully. A mod might get us noticed, but probably for reasons other than what I hoped for. |
Making a mod goes way beyond the Hammer editor, so if it is limitation in what you can do in Hammer, there is much more to modding in HL2. If it is distrobtion, as you mentioned, the yes, modding a game can be a bit of a problem. But it is very unlikely you will find anything that compares in simplicity for such a complicated game.
Sure, if you wanted to make a 2D sidescrolling banana throwing monkey game, it would be rather easy to get the base down and start hammering out design and gameplay solutions, but a 3D shoot? Not very easy. I will give you a hint, look up http://www.ogre3d.org/, as it is a popular engine for people just wanting to get into game design. |

Freakin' sweet if you have no idea how to make a real FPS. wtf is a "real FPS" 99% of the FPS games in the world consist of nothing but a few guns and the shooting of said guns. Not all that complex of a game to make |

I'll be quite honest, that looks absolutely stupid. In their own example videos it looks like complete crap, with level design on par with... well, honestly, I've never seen a FPS with so horrible looking levels, even Golden Eye had more details. The guns didn't look good at all, the animations of the characters was horrid, and the models looked as generic as they get. All together it looked like the crayon scribbles of a 3 year old of FPS.
If they had a real map editor, or a fully filled tile set and character/weapon models/animation that didn't look like crap, it might not be too bad, but it doesn't have those. |

Check out: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=112663&b=25 And you guys all being programmers should know better, it's never as easy as it looks. Programming an FPS is as hard as anything else out there. |
You could always try out Core
