I don't know about you but ive noticed lately that BYOND has made alot of changes. Most of which suck... I PAY for a membership to BYOND... I PAY for one. And yet i sign on to the site and go on the BYOND Developers forum and get a message telling me that i am NOT allowed to use the forum for asking for help on copy righted material... And the copy righted material they used was Charmed.
I am making a Charmed game and Owner of another. Yes it is copy righted material... But im sorry has anyone looked at the Anime Explosion of Rippage? That would seem to be a bigger problem on BYOND then my slight use of copy righted materialon a game that is BASED on Charmed. I mean... This is Build Your Own Net Dream right? Because i remember my net dream being to make a good Charmed game since it was a popular show that ended like in 2006....
Maybe... Just maybe... The Owners of BYOND or the Administrative Staff should be more worried about the players that are stealing Source Codes and files from other players and posting them all over BYOND so that there are hundreds of rips being made all the time. And for that metter... The people that arent ripping others codes and are making games from scratch for the players who either also PAY for there memberships or play this site for free should be able to get the help the need with the use of the Forum made for such a thing...
Maybe thats just me but that really chaps my ass...

For one... Im not whinning get off your high horse. For two... They make these forums for us to talk about things in BYOND. I dont need to search for other topics about the same thing. If id like to start my onw topic about a problem there is nothing in BYOND that says im not allowed to. Im not spamming the topic and ive only posted once. This is my first time EVER posting on this forum at that. If you have read other topics about it then ignore this one and dont make comments on it. Thats pretty simple. Also if you have noticed i havent asked for help on the Cassifide ads for my game. The point is that we should be able to. And missing my point again... Why isnt somehting being done about the rip epidemic on BYOND? I mean.. How many anime games are there? Like over 2000 or something... And yet... Im sure more then half are made from the same 4 Source codes most likely. And as far as my membership is concerned... I havent broken any BYOND rules and follw them well... **As per the fact that i havent posted anything on the BYOND classifide Ads about my game. Im sure as you have noticed or can use common sense to figure out i have yet to break any rules with BYOND so my membership or account is in no danger of being deleted nor am i worried it will be. Unfortunately since i can not use the forum to ask for help on my game then i will try to find other means of doing so. But a forum sould be made for those how do have fan based games that would like help since they seem to be so popular. Although im sure it still wouldnt help BYOND with its rip problem. But it might help those who are trying to make games find the help they need.

The CA forums deny fangames for a good reason. They can't just say "Well, anyone with a fangame based on an anime isn't allowed". That would be drawing the line in an odd direction, gerrymandering if you will.
It's best to say that all fangames based of copyrighted works where the creator of the fangame does not have correct permissions are banned. And that's the case in CA. If you could prove that you have gain permission from the creators of Charmed, than I'm sure the staff wouldn't mind letting your game in. As for the rips: Not only is it nearly impossible for the BYOND Staff to even touch the issue, it's up to the users to protect their source code. It is also up to them to persue anyone who violates their copyrights, not BYOND's. On top of that, most users have next to no legal grounds to sue another user for using their work as their creation would be a violation of copyright laws in the first place. BYOND maintains the servers and gives users the ability to post their content. Kinda like blogspot or youtube, BYOND is not responsible for the content, so long as they clean up anything when requested to by the proper authority. In fact, doing something about it could actually be legally worse for them, as the law states that if you edit something, you basically endorse it, so it's really hard to do much at all without the law falling against you. |

Then i must get the law!! Lol... I dont mind that much. Im not going to sue BYOND or anything... Its not that important. I just thought it was weird to get the pop up and wanted to make a post about it to get others opinions. As for the Charmed thing... I think it would be rather hard to get permision from the Creator... But it could be do-able. Ill work on that. Maybe you are on to something. ^_^. As for the rips... your right. i guess there isnt much BYOND could do about them. Although it would be nice if they could. I hate seeing other peoples hard work get thrown about to other people that are just going to kills its memory or rep. We have some Charmed Rippers in our little BYOND Charmed Circle... One comes to mind right now... Freakiing terrorist... >_> That what i call him anyway. Either way. I love BYOND. I still play it and i continue to make games on it with the help of the people how are willing. Not having usage of the Forum makes it alittle harder but i like a challenge. ^_^ Lol. Thanks for your comment.

And the copy righted material they used was Charmed. The Classified Ads forum had become a disaster--the no outside copyrights rule was put into effect to stop that. You can still ask for help on your game in any appropriate guild's forums, like for instance BYOND RPG or one of the fan game guilds. I understand the frustration of not being readily able to find help in those places though, so if you have suggestions that might bump up the activity in those places or want to discuss other solutions, that could be a discussion well worth having. Typically someone is banned for posting copyrighted material in CA if they've done so repeatedly and been warned not to. Bottom line: If we have to keep deleting your posts, we're going to ban you, because we're tired of having to delete 10 posts a day in that forum and some of them coming from the same people over and over. Next time the forum pops up with a set of rules to read before you post, read them before you post. Now onto the other problem - you complain because you can't post ads for your Charmed game, but you also complain because other people are making anime rips? And you say we're not doing anything about it. Maybe you didn't notice, but the whole prohibiting of copyrighted material in Classified Ads IS doing something about it. Before we restricted copyrighted material, nine out of ten posts on that forum were for people demanding help on their anime rips. So first people like you complain, "OMG everybody in CA is asking for coders and iconers for their anime rips, this is so lame!!! why don't you guys do something about it!???" Then when we do something about it, you complain "OMG you won't let me post an ad for my fangame WTF you guys suck!!!" You're impossible. |

Being a BYOND Member doesn't exclude you from any rules, and more so you have also agreed to the ToS saying BYOND can terminate your membership if you break the rules (they're not going to do it just for this, though).
