Is it possible to purchase a Byond membership with any type of gift card?
It might be possible with one of the visa gift cards (which act like debit cards), but I doubt anything else would work. This is more of a paypal question than anything, by the way.

Please don't give people misleading answers if you don't know the answer yourself. Clearly the answer to this is a qualified yes, not an absolute yes.

We can accept any gift card which is a generic card that has a credit logo like Visa, MasterCard, AmEx, etc. But you can't use a gift card from, say, Barnes & Noble or The Home Depot to buy a BYOND membership. If the gift card has a credit logo and therefore can be used as a credit card, we can accept it just like any other credit card.

That's just common sense. We can safely assume he won't be trying to buy a BYOND membership with a Home Depot gift card--to think he would is irrationality. Great job at insulting both his and my intelligence. How unbecoming of you.

You've obviously never worked customer service. I've heard stranger questions come from customers. His response wasn't off the mark:P

You should put in the name on the card. It's like. "Gift Holder" or whatever. Any name is fine, the payment processor doesn't check it when they run the card.

On a more serious note, specific and clear advice when dealing with financial issues is always a must. To prevent mistakes and annoying mishaps, not to insult anyone.

And I've had people ask me what the specials of the day were, when all they had to do was turn their head to the left. In customer service, you have to be as specific as possible, you make one mistake, and they will rape it for as many free benefits as they can possibly get.

Some are, some aren't.

He specifically asked if any kind of gift card was suitable. He might not have meant it that way, but it's hard to tell, and the distinction in what's acceptable payment and not does matter. Having worked in a store where customers would often try to pay with a competing chain's gift card, and got very disappointed or even upset when corrected of the misapprehension that we were affiliated, I can say that the more specific information they have up front the better.

The question deserved a way more nuanced answer than "yes", since by itself that's the wrong answer. No insult of any kind to anyone's pride was intended.

By itself it was the correct answer. He asked if any gift cards were acceptable (at least one out of the many), not if they were all acceptable.

Just a small question for the visa and American express

Do they come with the CSC number

AmEx's number appears on the front as I recall (PayPal has some info on that, though we have a graphic as well), but for other cards you'll see that number on the back and it's usually 3 digits.

Well I bought it and it didn't work :(

How much is on the card? You may need an extra dollar if byond's payment processor checks the validity by authorizing a dollar first (and then reversing the authorization).

Of course Lummox would know more about it than I do. Your best bet is to call the 800 number on the back of the card and ask them why it was declined.
In response to CaptFalcon33035
Um. But it's not.

Any type of gift card could mean a Wal-mart gift card, which BYOND could not accept, so your answer of "Yes" is wrong. Lummox was right, unless it's a credit or debit card, we don't accept it. He wasn't insulting your intelligence, he was correcting your wrong reply, and the question posed by Kurma was more appropriately answered by Lummox, so....
