i was just wondering is there a ventrilo server some one has made for just developers? im kinda new to this all Ive been around Byond for a while but always kept to my self

i was wondering how people would feel about a ventrilo server being put online (if there isn't one all ready) were people could go to talk over a mic about Games they are working on coding problems and just general help?

i would be willing to post a small server online and give this a shot is there is people that think this would be a good idea :) i would need admin of course but i think it could be a good idea i don't know about other people but i always find it easier to fix a problem when some one is talking to me person to person rather then just text :)

tell me wat you guys think and thank you ready this :)
I've come quite accustomed to dealing with programming in a very text-based manner. A lot of the trouble I suspect I'd have using a Ventrilo server for chatting about programming is I'm quite a visual person, so I am liable to want to whip out some paper and draw a diagram. I'm sure there are a few people who might like this idea though.

I agree with you Stephen. I find it considerably difficult to concentrate on the task at hand if I'm speaking it allowed instead of typing it on a keyboard.

My concentration is best kept when background noise isn't important. Music will block out all non-visual distractions from the monitor.
More than once BYOND has had user run Vent and TeamSpeak server. Every time they end up just going offline because of lack of interest. And from a developers point of view, they'd be rather useless. I ran a TeamSpeak server for BYOND for nearly a year, and all that was ever done on it was play video games outside of BYOND.

I think the end result would be that nobody who knows much about DM would frequent the Vent server, and if anyone did, the last thing they would want to talk about is DM.

Not voice, but text -- but, that tends to work *far* better for development. Try reading out a code snippet through a microphone.

I would so read that book.

But yes, Reading source code over something such as Ventrilo or Skype is just a pain.
