Hey, most people call me Artemis or Art. I wasn't sure where to post this... but I have noticed ALOT of hubs that go unused or say nothing, or are just stupid in general... And these hubs are for games that either dont exist or havent been played in a long time or are those games people make when "They just need to find a coder, mapper, and iconner so they can start", Or just have never been played. I'll leave examples on the bottom of some of the games I have found.
But I just feel that it would be better if these hubs were erased or removed seeing as how they do nothing but take up space. Seriously... If BYOND is in need of a person that goes around checking these things and removed hubs that either have no purpose anymore, or are just not set up properly. I would be more then happy to do the job.
Examples of this would be,

http://www.byond.com/games/SasukeUchiha10/ Charmedthefightforthepowerofthree
http://www.byond.com/games/Charmed101/Charmedwithspirit
http://www.byond.com/games/PaigeThe_Elder/CharmedEvilReturns ((Spoke with the maker of this game, some of the stuff used on this hub was taken from other hubs and she says she has found noone to make the game with her and has no interest in looking either.))

http://www.byond.com/games/Phoebe2609/charmed ((This one lacks any type of common sense... the title isnt even spelled right and the 5 or so words on the hub arent even words...))
These three games have been discontinued by the owners for a long time now. years even.

I'm sure by now you have realized these are all Charmed games. If I posted everyone I came accross then this post would go on for a long long time... I do however play charmed and I have 2 Charmed games on BYOND as well, both with properly set up hubs that give usefull information, and make sense. On games that have actually been played, are actually worked on, and have a real chance. Out of the 35 Charmed games you will find if you search Charmed, 3 of them arent even Charmed games, and 19 others are either never used, discontinued, or faked sites that have little to no information on them. That leaves 16 games on there that are either actively played or have enough information and have been put and running at some point recently.
I hope this is taken into consideration and these hubs are removed or replaced. Or the owners be sent some type of message asking them to fix and/or remove them on there own. As well as all the other empty hubs or useless hubs found on BYOND. I'm sure it is a long tedious job... But saidly. It must be done. Or if not MUST be done, then it should atleast be done. =] Thanks for reading and listening... ^_^

I would assume that you are hinting at the direction of something like this?

Umm... No... I don't care if the games are downloadable or not. My point is these hub's either have no reason for being, because they have no information and have no actual game that goes along with them, or they are games that have long been terminated by the owners. In which case, the hub should be removed. It makes no sense for someone to make a hub for no reason, and never publish a game, or to just make a hub and leave very little information on it. Like "Good game" Or "Come join us and play" for starters that tells you nothing about the game itself, and also, if there is no game to play and/or no game to download, why is there a hub? Hubs being made for games that dont exist or only exist in the minds of the hub maker shouldn't here.

I view the hub as a basic repository that anyone can freely use. What is valuable is publicity of a hub, via the guild listings & the search. The guilds should be doing a decent job of manually filtering entries, but it sounds like (both from your report and previous) that the search needs better work suppression expired or worthless hubs. We can look into that-- at least filtering out inaccessible games and possibly those that haven't been accessed in a long time (although I want to be careful that we don't lose legitimate games this way). |

What if you automatically checked the boxes on the hub entries which hide them from searches? Active developers could then remove the check at will. Those who get together to play the games of developers who left ages ago would still have direct access through the old hub addresses and/or their favorites list.

I was thinking, for hubs that generally dont say anything, since the hub iteself is to advertise a game. Perhps there could be a character limit on the hub. you have to use so many characters before being able to post a hub. If you are just saying something like "A good game" Does your hub really need to be there? That tells me nothing about the game itself. It shows no insight on what it is about or whether i will like it or not, ETC. But if you made hubs so that you actually have to put something, so many characters, or you have to fill out so many catagories. It would discorage lame hub makers from wasting the time to make crappy hubs, and give new game makers a better hub set up to accurately display the game they want people to play. Might be a stupid idea, but it is just a thought.

That wouldn't work out well for old games that are still playable, but who's developers aren't around anymore. |

I wouldn't bother checking the box of every hub entry. I was referring to projects lacking both a server and a file to download. I figure they're settings that a script could check. It wouldn't help with inaccessible files as the temporary nature of such things could bring up false positives, but I think it would hide most of the problem entries. =)
