Anyone here remember DWL (Dragon Warrior Legacy) at all? It used to have a small community here, but same ol' people playing it weekly. Too bad it's been gone for years because it was a lot of fun. There was always something new to do in the game, whether it be completing a dungeon solo, with friends, or PVP tournaments. You could buy, sell, and even trade items. There was a casino (which I remember spending all my gold on to even win once). The boss fights were pretty cool too.
I woke up thinking about the good times on there. Now days, you got garbage on BYOND... nothing quite as appealing as DWL. Then you had UnknownPerson running his Dragon Warrior game somewhat like DWL, forgot the name... but that was good as well. Someone should seriously think about creating something similar to one of them. Perhaps even upping the graphics from 8-bit to 16-bit...
Anyhow.. I may attempt to do just that, but it's only an idea. For those who do remember, what would you say to a dungeon-like real-time recreation?
Hmmm... it's on my mind. I just don't recall any game on BYOND having any appeal aside from DWL and DWM (I remember the name now!).

The host files will have a resource file. With that, you could use the resource extractor and get the game graphics needed to rebuild the game, especially if it's long dead.

I'm aware of what can be done to extract graphical files. I've already had the Dragon Warrior stuff from DWL for years now. It's just a large project to take on solo. Mainly the mapping. |

Mapping is one of the most easiest aspects of making a game for BYOND.

Also the most fun in my opinion.
However along with mapping comes making the icons to map (if you aren't lame and steal them like mentioned in above posts). Usually you have to make a new set of icons (unless the game is boxy and then it doesn't matter) to make new land features and animate the ones that require animation, put the current sets into new climate types (Ie: snow, etc) and plenty of other work with making the icons. Not to mention the characters/equipment/enemies/etc. Lots of work especially for one person. Tack on all the other work - programming/music/advertising/managing/testing/etc. |
