Has anyone here played the game? A friend said it wasn't good at all but reviews say different and I want one more opinion before i end up wasting $50-70

The game was very enjoyable. Checking out its previous games, I would say try it, you won't regret it.

You should stop hanging out with this friend of yours, he obviously doesn't know what he's talking about. Mass Effect 2 and Fallout 3 are arguably the best RPG's of this console generation. Buy the game and all the DLC, it's worth every penny.

Personally I liked it, at the begin it might seem boring, due to quite complicated and long character creation, and till you start getting used to controls, game dynamics and etc. But later on, it gets really fun.

If you have ever played Oblivion it's pretty much that engine and gameplay with a whole different setting. It's a good game and you can buy the game of the year edition, which is the game and all the download able content for like 30 bucks used at Babbages. Your friend must just have very bad taste in games. I wouldn't go to him for future gaming advice.

I didn't care for it. Not because it was a bad game, but simply because I don't enjoy RPGs of that type. I've never beat FF7, only got a few hours into Oblivion, and probably haven't beat a traditional RPG since Chrono Trigger.

I love RPGs, and I especially liked Oblivion. But Fallout 3 was just plain boring.

Fallout 3 is aewsome , i have it for xbox 360, it mixes FPS with RPG , the gaming tyoes i like most and it has a very big world with lots of enimies and you can be an evil guy or an bad guy, andyou have many ways of completing the quest in the game, plus the weapons are very nice and the gore is aewsome, the bad things are the 3rd person camera that sucks, and some bugs that can be fixed by updating the game. Fallout 3 is very good, buy it if you like RPGs and futurist games.

They don't really have a single thing in common o.O FO3 is more like a single player MMORPG than a traditional RPG like FF7 or CT. They are both story/skill point driven RPGs. They may be drastically different in every visible way, but they are in the same genera for a reason. They both scratch a single itch for people, an itch that I don't have.

They are both story/skill point driven RPGs. Skills/Stats are mostly irrelevant in FO3. They mostly open up new features - like having a "mysterious stranger" come and finish off your enemies, or having enemies explode from gunfire. For the most part its just as easy to kill any enemy on level 1 as it is on the max level. And the story in FO3 is completely optional. I don't see why you would skip it, but once you leave the basic "tutorial" area you're free to do whatever you want. Just go around murdering every NPC in the game for all that matters. I played oblivion for like 30 hours on my first character and was still only like level 3 lol |

If you choose to go around killing people randomly you kinda get rid of any challenge/goals, basically making it no longer a game. If I remember correctly, FO3 has skill points along with the 'talents'. The skill points were important too and did things like decided damage and accuracy or chance of picking a lock and whatnot.
FO3 and FF7 are about story and character development. If you don't find those enjoyable, they offer little to keep you engaged. That goes for pretty much any RPG. |

How so? I'm saying that the game is mostly about story and not doing the story is not fun. But if you don't find the story fun, then there is little to no fun to be found.

If you don't think randomly killing stuff is a game, and you don't like games with story or character development, then whats left? And most of the story events are just killing stuff, just with talking before and after, and sometimes during! |

Randomly killing stuff can be a game, but it isn't that game. FO3 does little to reward you for killing people, and killing people isn't sanctifying on it's own, leaving it to not be fun to just do around killing random people. I can spend hours in GTA running down ladies of the night, but that is because it has been designed to make the act of running over ladies of the night fun.
Yes, the story events are normally just killing things, but then you are rewarded with more story. And the open nature of the game doubly rewards you because the bit of story you get changes depending on how/who you choose to kill. |

It takes no effort to make randomly killing things a game. 99.9% of games have killing stuff as an aspect of the game, the ones that go beyond that are the decent worthwhile ones. Pretty much every "reward" you get in FO3 is for randomly killing things, from equipment to exp to money to various items. Completing story events doesn't actually do anything except unlock the next story event. I can spend hours in GTA running down ladies of the night, but that is because it has been designed to make the act of running over ladies of the night fun. Because obviously that's rewarding. |
