Right now, I can't purchase a membership. I was wondering if anybody knew of any good websites, that didn't cost $, where I could have a direct link download usable with Byond.

http://www.freewebs.com - I have not used this service for years, but I will assume it still works. Freewebs is currently unable to provide direct link hosting to .zip or other non-digital media files. You can only host images, I believe. I don't know about Angelfire. You're best bet, OP, is to search Yahoo/Google/MSN/Bing/Ask.com and look for direct-link or hotlink free file hosting. |
http://www.opendrive.com/
It has direct-linking for free accounts as well, but there is a catch. You must promote it in some way. However, it does say you can provide a link from any website that contains the OpenDrive logo or link. I even got one you can use as a reference to enable direct-linking (from a blog post I made): http://www.byond.com/members/ Bandock?command=view_post&post=98786 Of course there are other websites (which I haven't used yet). |
http://dropbox.com :)
everything in the public folder gets its own direct link and it makes things easy to updat since its just a folder connected to the web :o . |
http://uppit.com has a 5 second wait and a download button you need to click, I don't believe that would work (unless they had some form of membership). http://fileave.com is nice, but you only have a 200gb limit and you HAVE to log in once every 30 days, which I can't bother to deal with.
I have found the best website to use is Dropbox. |

I'd recommend either Dropbox
Edit: Don't use Skydrive, it seems to change the links to your files more often than I'd thought. |
I used skydrive for a few years, but I can't say I was ever very fond of it. It created excessively long links whereas dropbox links are smaller and easier to manage. Though, skydrive has a free 25gb (if I recall correctly?) which is very nice for storing lots of things, if you need that much space.

Yeah, I prefer Dropbox as well. In addition to the long links Skydrive generates, I had a problem once where one of them changed at some point, breaking the download (although that has only happened once AFAIK). I just mentioned it because of the storage space and because a lot of people already have a Windows Live ID.

The pager requires a direct link to the hub, as you know, so sites such as rapidshare would not work.
I would suggest using Google to search for free web host or free file hosting.

http://www.angelfire.lycos.com - Same situation as freewebs.
