Human base attempt

I've recently gotten an interest in Dungeon Master. The old icon is on the right, the newer one is on the left. Critique would be welcome as I'm hoping to redo the entire game's assets. I pulled up some tutorials on shading and spriting, but this is my first attempt.

The thing is, the original icon's proportions were wrong so you've improved the original icon for sure but you've also maintained it's original proportions.

If that's what you wanted then that's fine but here's a reference if you'd like to give it more accurate proportions.

Mainly what I was referring to was the width of their body and head.

Edited due to curiosity: I actually attempted to make the head and body not as wide, like you suggested, and I'm actually very pleased with this, and not sure why it slipped my eye. Thank you!
