Have you experimented with removing a bit of the outline? Oh, wait maybe that's not a good idea with this scale... Hmm...I'm thinking the current outline color might need to be turned down a notch in value or saturation. Or maybe switched to a shadow color with addition of another color for the outline. Or just switched to a shadow color being used sparingly for areas like the feet, arm and torso, the thighs and crotch, underneath the head.
