uh well my map is really big.. its an exact recreation of narshe from final fantasy 3. what i did to make it was instead of using dmi 32x32 icons i took a picture of narshe and saved it as a dmi which works but its exactly the same size as a bmp for some odd reason and with a picture that large thats not something i can afford to do. it would take way too long to use 32x32 icons though and there would be too many of them. is there anything i can do?

Doing things right requires not being lazy. Either rebuild the city using tiles like FF6 originally, or don't build the city at all. (Or better yet, make something original instead of another recreation.)

you're right theres really no better way than the old fashioned way.. i suppose patience is a virtue.

You could convert it into a .png, which would cut down on the size some, but it would still be pretty big...

Well, i think gughunter recently came out with a thing that turns PNGs and BMPs into maps. Of course, you probobly don't have a BYONDscape subscription, so this won't work....damn....
