Merry Christmas Readers! Everyone has been very busy these past two weeks, making this the longest Within BYOND I have yet to write. Good work developers! This will be the final Within BYOND of 2014, and we look forward to seeing everyone and your developments in the coming year, even though I anticipate writing the wrong year for at least the first three months of the new year.
Have a wonderful holiday season, and a happy new year!
BYOND Engine
BYOND has received numerous updates, bug fixes, and improvements since it was last mentioned in Within BYOND. Notable improvements include the ability to embed the Webclient into your own website and the ability for players to login away from BYOND's website. I will add that the Webclient seems way more responsive to me compared to the last time I really tried it out.
For hosts who may not be aware, allowing players to use, and getting the link for embedding the Webclient, in most cases, is as easy as updating your BYOND version to the beta version found on the downloads page and hosting your game in Dream Daemon. Dream Daemon will generate the links needed for embedding the Webclient, and on the BYOND hub, your server will have a [play in webclient] link listed on its entry.
The beta version is nearing stability and will soon become the stable version, so there really is no reason to delay upgrading! If you do run into issues with the Webclient, report themso they can be evaluated and fixed!
BYOND Games
The space station survival game Space Station 13 Event Horizon now presents engineers with variety in their wardrobe and in their skills. The alien has askill set as well, and it will need them in an 8 vs 1 raid, especially since the last living engineer has authorization to detonate the entire station.
Avalon has been promoted to Beta by its creator, Taint_thewizard. Version 17.375 features a series of bug fixes, interface improvements, and music. It is not mentioned in the update log, but Santa Claus is hiding somewhere in Alavon. I couldn't find him, can you?
Pixel Realms (Aka Writing a New One) has posted two exciting updates for the fantasy RPG Servered World. Topped off with smooth .GIFs, The first report shows excellent interfaces and characters, and gives a glimpse to the lore of the game. The second update demonstrates the flashy skills that have been developed so far.
Final Path is an upcoming tactical turn based RPG developed by Audio Freak. The latest update features the game's ability to automatically resize the HUDs so that they remain in the correct position regardless of screen size.As an occasional user of a netbook with an 800x600 screen, I know that almost no one supports screens lacking screen real estate. Thanks.
Sigrogana Legend 2 has received an update this past week. While mainly adjustments and bug fixes, additions include a new promotion for the mage class called the Hexer, and five new items available for subscribers.
Silk Games has successfully completed a merger of several of the official NEStalgia servers. Players who haven't played the game in nearly two years can find their savefile stored here, among 50000 others! I read somewhere about the possibility of a Christmas event, but I can't find it now. Keep your eyes pealed.
Yutput has been working on creating a multiplayer online battle arena styled game. I played a few rounds and it was pretty fun. I don't have a better name to call it other than "Yutput's MOBA" at the moment, or even a hub page to link to. Fan Yutput on BYOND for a chance at the link when he posts it, and follow@NickEverlith on Twitter to keep tabs on what he is doing.
Moo! Cow RP has seen its first update in quite some time recently. Bovine_Buddy posted the version notes for 4.03. The new island mode provides new land masses to explore, and the update provides new building materials and jobs. (FYI, "moo"ing in the game is typically a bad idea...)
Lugia319 has been working on BreederMon during his spare time at work. Mix and match animal parts though breeding pets, and battle in the Colli-See-Um. Wishing his followers a merry Christmas, Lugia219 has posted the *SECERT* frog code asa present.
Additionally, Lugia319 is currently hosting RetoWeek 2: Castle In Space, which is a competitive event for everyone to enjoy Abra's good old game of Space Castle. The contest goes till December 28th, so grab some friends and give it a shot!
Theogony by Taitz is "a game with an pseudo infinite world generation system" and "powers, which are created by the players from the abilities that they have obtained". Not much information is available on game specifics at the moment, but the hub icon caught my attention, and the screen shots even more so.
Isometric turn based strategy game Z Tatics - Fallen Kingsresumed development last week, setting a goal of a free-to-play release prior to Christmas. Being that it is now Christmas eve, Zete has posted a status update stating that the game is "right behind doors". That said, he released a character and skills guide, so that players can prepare and strategize before jumping into the game.
Alienx26 has posted an update log and pictures of the action zombie shooter game he has been developing for the past two months. SHOOT! now has a mini map, improved zombie AI, and weather.
The fantasy world found in A Birth of Magick is beginning to form, as the developers busily work away at character and world development, along with pixel art. There is currently an alpha test available to BYOND members, although there isn't currently a lot to do in version 1.2.
Oasiscircle is once again taunting us with updates to the "casual" brick matching and breaking game Alchemist. This time he has a Youtube video of an AI playing the game at super sonic speeds. Iplay at about a 1/20th of that speed.
Vivalas has created a hub page for his new game, MiningCorporation. In Mining Corporation, players team up to engage in modern day mining, driving trucks to mine and transport ores to the factory, for the sake of competing with other teams and reaching high scores for the best shift ever.
Kevin208 published a new update log for the open world, side scrolling RPG branded Just a Game. Week 3 was eaten by school finals, and week 4 brings new skills to the table and with names like Giga Drill Breaker, how couldn't they be cool?
Mask of Illusion has announced Stygian, a multiplayer platformer where players choose a class and a side and battle one another, apart or together, to gather souls to unlock new classes and powerful creatures. Stygian's grayscale appearance and spooky setting appear promising.
MicrORPG has continued its development with Mr_Goober taking a precautionary measure to reduce complexity in the game by creating event handler scripts. For readers more interested in pictures than code walls, he also published some eyecandy, along with eyes, candy, armor, and more.
