Saving the World

What would be the best time to save and load world variables? Is there a login() logout() similiar function that could be used to save and load world variables?

Im talkin about the best time to call a Save() proc and a Load() proc on the world. AKA I start the world and it calls Load() and loads the worlds variables I shut the game down it calls Save() and saves the worlds variables. But WHERE do I put these procs? For players Load() is in Login() and save is in Logout() I need to know where to put them for the world.
