I no this prob is a popular question but for my game i hav a router any1 no which ports i need 2 open?
|
Depends which ports you want to host on! BYOND doesn't use specific ports, it can use any ports you want.
Example: If you want to host on port 3000, open port 3000. |

Well, it depends what you mean by "open". Typically, you have to "forward" ports to specific computers on your LAN. What exactly did you do? Knowing the model number of your router would also help, so I can look at the manual (the manufacturers usually put up online PDF versions of the manual).

QUICK SETUP FOR DMZ (so you can host on ANY port):
Goto the console (standard: http://192.168.0.1). Fill in your username / password. Click on "Applications & Gaming". Click on "DMZ". Enable it, and set the 192.168.0.0 to your computer's local IP. Click "Save Settings". --= Tip : Download ZoneAlarm (http://www.zonelabs.com) so you can protect your computer (as the router is no longer protecting you. LARGER SETUP FOR PORT FORWARDING (so you can host on a few ports): Goto the console (standard: http://192.168.0.1). Fill in your username / password. Click on "Applications & Gaming". Click on "Port Range Forwarding". Application: Enter the name of the game you'd like to host. Start and End: Specificy ports (1001-1002 opens ports 1001 and 1002, while if you type 1001 it'll only open 1001). Protocol Select: Both (if you don't your computer can't either output data to the client or input data. IP Address: Your local IP. Enabled: CHECKED |

DMZ is seldom the best solution. Horridly insecure. Adding on Zone Alarm isn't a great solution to that either. Zone Alarm creates lag. I know of one network based game that can't be played if Zone Alarm is running, because the lag is so terrible.

This topic has actually been discussed many times before. If you do a quick forum search (There's a text box located at the top right of the web-page), you'll get some answers from the previous posts. :)
