Have you tried the disk in another computer, because it might just be the floppy drive in your current computer, also, do other floppy disks work in your current drive?

Formatting a disk tends to ERASE everything on it. Since it sounds like even the format didn't work properly, try reading the disk using a different computer.
Sounds like you have a dirty drive head. You can pick up a cleaning kit just about anywhere that sells computer stuff.

However... like Jon88 pointed out, formatting your disk erases everything on it. Didn't you read the warnings as they popped up? Even if the drive is dirty and the format didn't work properly, it probably worked well enough to destroy everything you had on the disk.

Next time I recommend keeping your project in encrypted zip files. That will keep your brothers out of it and allow you to keep multiple backups in case something like this happens again. I have a zip package for every day that I work on Darke Dungeon and I keep the latest one in multiple places: Harddrive, CD-R, and an online data vault. After a scare I had over a book I was writing, I take no chances.
