I started writing a game... it was a proelium like game called tides of hell but i just can't fix it up. I have trouble adding in systems like fletching and stuff i got a mining system in it's just hard. how did you go about creating your first game??
Learning to program doesn't happen overnight. You keep learning more and more the more you keep programming! I'm pretty sure everyone here built a first project that was a piece of junk. The second project was a little better. The third a little better than the second, and so on...

People who've been here for a few years have probably started hundreds of projects. Some of them work out, and some of them don't.

Read through that and seriously think on it. [link]

I think I read about one setence of that post. Way too long.

It is only too long for those of you who are not serious about learning to program. If you are as serious as I am, you will quickly grab up all such bits of text even if they are long enough to make a small book.

Sometimes I do make long posts, but I see nothing wrong with that. If something is worth saying and is important, then it is worth saying as many words as it takes to get the point across.

Those of you who know about the degenerate state of the gamefaqs forum and how illogical, unreasonable and irrelevant everything that everyone in there says might find this next bit humorous. I have been called in several times by some people to help them make a case, and I type up posts that are about as long as the maximum length that forum will accept (Only a few thousand characters, less than even that post I liked you to here.) and I totally ravage all "facts" (used extremely looseley) and "sound arguments" that the ignorant people there put forward, and by the time I am done they cannot even argue with their own dumbed down and repetative arguments, all they ever have left to insult me on after I post is that my posts are long.

Anyway, back on topic, that post I linked to is only too long if you allready know about what it discusses or if you don't care. Otherwise, it is just fine.

Heh. If that's the extent of your attention span, don't bother trying to learn programming. Takes way too long.

And even if you do manage that, actually programming stuff takes way too long too.
What you want to do, is start small. Make simple games at the beginning. Once you can make those simple games well, add onto it or move onto another, more complex game. Check the tutorials and demos. The reason you can't fix your game is because you're starting too big. And the best tip is... use these forums. there are tons of good people to answer your questions. They've helped me loads of times. XD
