That would severly tick me off.

As annoying as it is for it to restart your personal computer, it restarts our SERVER!
Windows just up and decides that it has the right to restart our server for the hell of it and actually(I am not sure how) broke MSWord on one of our computers that was currently using a word file off the server. This did happen on off hours, so the damage was minimal, but if it happened during work hours there could be data lost that could not be recovered. Very often data is inputted, then hard copies are promptly destroyed because we deal with very sensitive client information. If the server up and decides to crash on us while saving, shredding might already be in process. Granted this is also the fault of the user, but it is just as much fault of Windows. |
Heh, I always laugh when XP 'recovers' from critical errors by effectively suiciding. Exuse me, but if my PC crashes I am quite capable of pressing the restart button, or more often Ctrl+Alt+del'ing and closing the offending program.

That's one of the things I hate the most about Windows: lack of control. Any program is allowed to reboot the computer, and such programs don't even have to identify themselves! No wonder so much viruses and trojans are out that do this type of stuff!
The most bull of them all are the automatic update rebooting as given here. I had the same thing with automatic updates on (even more; automatic updates would make my CPU jump to 100% simply by looking if I need any updates). Then it reboots for absolutely no reason, and it doesn't even tell me why it rebooted (it doesn't even give me the notification like you received). What's also stupid is the "logbook"; it doesn't log anything but annoying warnings and notifications when services started up and shutdown. Nowhere can I see the reason why my computer just rebooted. Was it a memory error? Was it some kind of update? What was it?!? We'll never know. |
I find it funny that one of the selling points of XP was its module design allowing it to not have to reboot very often. The services where supposed to be fashioned so that I did not need to reboot, even with major system changes. You should just be able to restart the affected service.
Even on most major system updates on my Kubuntu Linux box I rarely have to reboot. Even when I need to reboot it is a passive request that doesn't bother you every 2 minutes. The only time I have ever seen a need for a reboot was when there was a kernel update. These are not very common and not time critical. Rebooting is the only way to update it, but it will not hurt to put it off for a good while |
I've had this happen before, so I put a stop to it. You can tell your Windows Update not to automatically install updates for you, and it will wait patiently until you're good and frickin' ready for it.
I think Microsoft needs to release a service pack that allows a third option: Install any updates automatically that do not require a reboot. |

Hey, give them some credit - this is only Power Outage Simulator v1.0, after all. Bugs are to be expected.
Version 1.1 is now available. In this version, the message box is much prettier and contains the word "unfortunately". The only downside is that it now requires the .NET framework. |
Holy hell whats more annoying is when you get updates and it keeps popping up that damn "auto-restarting in X minutes" thing when your trying to do something. I've walked away for a bit and come back and its restart....didn't lose anything but its annoying as hell...

It's an absolute travesty. I mean, these people are 'industry leaders' for crying out loud.

Strawgate: Good reason to ask why in the hell this problem hasn't been fixed yet.

I hate that... It FORCES YOU to reboot... when I am in a game or working on something, it just pops up and bothers me saying I have 5 minutes to reboot or it will for me... evil...pure EEEEVIILLLL!!!!!
