I'm just starting to do the research for my Battle System and I was hoping to get some advice from anyone who has implemented one of these systems.

The more details about your personal experiences the better.

Thanks,

Because it's kinda abnormal to attack things behind you, unless you've got ninja skills >.>.

You need to be more descriptive on what type of battle system you're doing. Would it be turn based, or realtime? How will battles be held? It would be pretty silly for you to ask this type of question and not describe how your battle system works. :P

So "never", then. With emphasis on the "never" meaning "only if you don't want the player to attack things behind you, and you don't want a list of the possible targets to appear".

Would it not also be silly to describe something you have no idea how to make. ;)

I understand your point though. My hope was to hear about any experiences on any battle system types.

I've not decided on turn based or real time and my game genre supports both types fairly well.

I think my #1 choice (at this time) would be to have real time movement and then move into turn based battles when in proximity of an enemy.

Other players in the world would go about there business as usual unless they came within range of a battle and then they to would enter turn based mode.

The reason I'm considering turn based combat is because it allows more time for players to do more interesting things.

I certainly don't want *click *click *click *click *click *click.. "you win!" and I really, really don't want *click..................."you win!".

I want each battle to be closer to a major event vs just hack n slash.

I guess... my goal is to make it as close to the D&D RPG turn based combat as possible.
