I have bought a hosting service and wish to use it for hosting a game, problem is I have no idea of how to do it. Do I have to upload the resource files to the htdocs folder or something, and how does it start hosting?
I really need a lot of help with this as I want it done quickly, I appreciate the help alot.

you need access to run proggys on the server. IE, shell access. However, if you bought 'hosting space', it's probably for webpages, not running programs.

if it is a typical webhosting space, then you are out of luck in hosting a game. you could, however, store the game files that people need to download to play the game in that space - just like any other file you can click on in a webpage.
as mentioned, you'll need something like a dedicated server, or shell server, which will allow you to host a game via DreamDaemon. and since most shell services are linux/unix/FreeBSD-based, you'll need to be familiar in getting around in those (text-based, think DOS) environments. |
