I am making a game, a harry potter game, ragnarok hgm claims it to be a rip since icons are until we chnaged them, he claims that I can get banned for it, I gave credit. please answer. It's true, Miran here is making a Harry Potter game, he used some of the icons untill he got new ones but also he gave credit, but secondly how can Ragnorak complain that we ripped from his game when he ripped from Charmed Games for example the first Charmed game from Jayhawk and Charmed Online which was from Xoule, he also ripped from many other games making his game but claimed they were all orginal but that was not true. |

The copyright depends on the Country he's in. For example, Copyright naturally falls to the Creator in the UK, so assuming he himself created the icons, then he has the Copyright in the UK. However this does not mean he will possess the Copyright in the US, which one assumes is where the 'infringement' occurred.
Matters of Copyright infringement have little to do with the BYOND staff or servers as far as I'm aware, unless they carry some form of liability for this sort've thing. So unless the BYOND staff are threatened with some form of Court action, I'd assume they'll simply inform the other party to deal with the matter with you in private. And the only way he could seriously 'make' you do anything would be through Court action, I'd assume. This I find particularly unlikely indeed, as I don't believe he possesses the US Copyright for those icons, so he hasn't got a leg to stand on, in my opinion. |

Wow. You sure contradicted me there. You raise an increadible arguement, I don't think I'll ever be able to fight that. You idiot.
I don't tend to use things like that on forums, but in this case, it just seems acceptable. Idiot. |

There was nothing on that page that contradicted me, either. Stop trying to prove your point, you didn't even read that. You just assumed I wouldn't either and I would just accept that you were right.

Wow, that statement sure seems to help show that you are not an idiot, replying to a thread nearly a month old..
- GhostAnime You did see past the sarcasm right? It may have been a bit thick... |

You're a bigger idiot than I am. I made the post, I know how old it is. He may come back and look at it, if not, then others can see it, as you just demonstrated, so shut up, buddy.

ripping is legal on byondRipping is ILLEGAL, unless the creator has given his/her consent and/or you follow the agreement posted otherwise it is infringing the copyright of the creator. unless you have it copyrighted with a company (which the byond admins can do nothing about, he'd have to sue you) Somewhat incorrect. "Copyright laws grant the creator the exclusive right to reproduce, prepare derivative works, distribute, perform and display the work publicly. Exclusive means only the creator of such work, not anybody who has access to it and decides to grab it." (http://whatiscopyright.org/) Meaning that you don't need to copyright it with a company.. though you do need to register with a copyright office as most places, such as the US, mailing the work to yourself as proof (with the date stamped) is not good enough to get monetary damages if the copyright was breached. The correct part is that BYOND admins can not do anything about it... unless they had sufficient proof that it first belong to the person in question, and if it was and the creator does not want it to be released, they can surpress the account (this does not always work though... annoying/stupid/whiny people do have the power .. as seen with the WOTS-BOTLS situation). Though suing is something out of the admins power, unless an admin in question was the creator :x you're allowed to take anything you want.So I am allowed to take your house and all your things? No one is really allowed to take anything on the 'net unless the creator has said so... And the company has to be copyrighted, he can't sue you with his Incurssion's Inc. or whatever it is. He can sue as the creator himself.. as mentioned before, you don't need to register somehting iwth a huge company or even with a company at all. Of course you can't copyright things that are already copyrighted (such as Naruto icons can not be copyrighted but the program for a naruto game, provided it has been created originally, can be copyrighted as it is your own creation and does not infringe the copyright of Naruto as the images do... although you hve to be careful with how you sue.. if you are suing over the other person making a naruto game, you won't get anything as it infringes the copyright of the original creator [making money off his/her work] however, if you were suing the person because he stole your programming code...) But hey, I don't know that much about copyright either *shrugs* - GhostAnime |

Your speaking of intellectually copyrighting. It works well, and can stop things like stealing someones game on byond, but doesn't work out for most things in life. But yeah, you're correct. My bad. And I remember reading a post from one of the admins that ripping games was illegal.... Meh. I must have misread it.

I played all the others before I made mine, and they were good, but they didn't work well for online. Most only had a building or two and nothing more, and the one that had a good amount of things in it was just a short 10 minute story line. |

The post was ment as a slight insult, because of his lack of information to his post. But I was mostley just implying that putting a post with one word in it was a stupid idea, and if he thinks I was wrong he can say so, but he should at least say why.
