cuz i need to know
Usually sitting down, listening to music, with a whole lotta caffeine and some mildly interesting ideas. Inspiration comes in spurts though, so very, very, slowly. :)

All kidding aside, the first step that is recommended to most is to read the DM Guide (http://www.byond.com/docs/guide/). After that, you might want to take a look at some beginner tutorials (http://zilal.byond.com/tutorials/zbt.html).

As for me, I started with ZBT (before the guide was available for free), and read the reference (http://www.byond.com/docs/ref/) from front to back a few times. Asking questions from your peers never hurt either.
Okay first, you dont just ask how do I code... I'm going to be nice here and help you, but next time I see this--
If you know what you want type it in to the search bar at the top of the developer screen. If you can't find a tutorial about it, then do a forum search, somebody might be asking for help about the same thing. There are also tutorials in the BYONDBwicki that might help. But I think the best possible resource would be this tutorial by Dantom(http://developer.byond.com/hub/Dantom/YourFirstWorld). Now please just don't ask so general and dumb questions, nobody is going to jump up and say oh I will teach you how to code.

Isn't that a little harsh? Anyways go on byondscape.com and search for the Dream Tutor articles created by Lummox Jr, and also read Kunark's Guide(its split into 3 parts).

Also, all harshness aside this is a good question. He is searching for answers already which is essential. Don't get mad at him for wanting to start a decent hobby.

You are going to need the DM Reference and Guide. While in your dm files you can hit the 'F1' key if you get stuck with something and search. This tool has been extremely helpful to me. I am lacking in the patience department and unless I have spent way too much time researching and making very little progress I don't come to the hub for answers. I read through the dm Guide first. It helped, but for me doing is better then seeing. So alot of the tutorials here are amazing. Here are a few I went off of, which was also used by another person offering advise.
I used this back when it was in a src. but this is equally enlightening.(http://zilal.byondhome.com/tutorials/zbt.html)

This one sort of gives you the feel of DM walks you through the very basics. Creating an environment. From there the sky is the limit.

I view my post as light-hearted, not harsh. I was just poking at the fact that he asked "How do you code?" rather than "How can I learn how to code?". I don't think I was demeaning or rude at any part of it. And if the originall poster feels that way, I appologize to him.

It is my beleif that the BEST way to learn anything, especialy something involving a good ammount of creativity, is in a good mood with a good sense of humor. :)

My message wasn't directed towards you lol. It was directed towards Burnination

Sorry, I just get mad when I see people who didn't bother to read tutorials. I guess all in all it is a good question, sorry if I offended anyone :P
