Well, lets get to the point.

Whats the best way to take an icon, let's say..Grass the usual pretty stuff, and turn it into mostly white's in a way that looks good and thats easy on the eyes? I've made a few attempt's and it mostly bothers my eyes or just look's bad.

And from this, how would i go about making one thats mostly black?

I've always been lacking in ability when it comes to icons.
