Grid scroll bars

Is it possible to prevent Grid Scroll bars from appearing at all once the contents of the grid become bigger than the grid itself?

Don't add so many items to the grid so that it requires a scrollbar?

It's not that, it's that I just want the grid to show ONE item but if the item is sufficiently large it creates scroll bars, even though the grid is larger than the 32x32 icon. 50x50 grid.
