How do bans present themselves to banned users?
I was playing on an SS13 server for a good 6-7 hours straight yesterday, when suddenly at the end of a round I lost connection to the server. I have not been able to connect since then, but the server is still appearing in the list of active games.
When I attempt to connect I get no message about being banned, it simply says "connection failed." Does this mean I may possibly have been banned, or does it mean the issue is likely to be server side?
I am not currently experiencing any other network connectivity issues with any other programs or machines on my home network.
I should probably add that I have also tried making a second account, and I am having the same issue with both accounts.

Well, the details depend somewhat on the game in question, and how the ban might have been implemented. It is probably best inquiring with the host of that particular world.
Thanks for your reply.
So you're saying it could be a manifestation of a ban?
Unfortunately the server in question does have a website, but that is (also?) down and has been since before this issue occurred, so I have no way of contacting the owners. At least not at the moment.
And just as I posted the above, the server came back! I will delete this thread shortly.
Might be, might not be. You can implement a ban by simply checking for a particular set of keys on login, and disconnecting matches there and then. That would produce "connection failed" with no further message.

What is the website, and is it down for other people also? Perhaps you can provide the URL here?

Edit: Please keep the thread. These threads form a useful history for people searching later, with similar issues.
SS13 allows you to log back in and the ban reason and time is displayed to you, then the connection is closed.

So you're either IP banned, or banned through Dream Daemon. Or your internet is having troubles.

A ban through Dream Daemon would show "Access denied," not "Connection failed." After successfully connecting to the server, world/IsBanned() is called to determine whether the player should continue to client/New().
If the server is running BSD/Linux, the hub entry is basically completely unreliable and the server may decide disconnect you for no reason, connect directly by IP
