Howdy, i am new to Byond but learning quickly. One thing that is messing with me is the map sizing. I am playing Teridal at the moment to see how others have done things and I notice their map scrolls as the player moves through the world.
My question is this. How are they creating this map? evertime I try to make a map bigger it does not run right. The area is up in some corner and anything that might be on it is out of proportion. My game will be open landscape with large towns as well as other buildings, caves etc. In my test enviro I made a map with x and y at 13 and z at 5. Should I scale my icon and turf sizes down on this map and move to the next layer when one is full? I'm not really grasping how to set this up.
The mouse thing I can probably figure on my own but since I'm here I will ask for advice. I want to give a desc. when mouse scrolls over an object and interact by clicking.
Since I am on the subject of issues - How do you make some of the nicer icons I keep seeing? The fountain I made in the icon editor looks more like something from 1986 Atari.
I will welcome any and all advice on these subjects and any others you want to share. You can post here or on my Forum at Spindraft.
Thanks

Right on but when I set the map size for say 100 x 100 the run time enviro always puts the area icon in the top right with the rest a black screen. So how do I create this big map other than just make a big map.

I can still definetly use some help understanding map creation and how to make better looking icons.
