Loading savefiles from other games

Is it possible to do something like this if the games have idenical vars? For example, I make a simulation of a Virtual pet which you train offline, then play with online on a server.

yes, it is possible.
as long the vars are compleatly ideal

Or you make a system for converting them.
Or the savefile is read and wrote to in the text format (Unsure of the proper name).
