Leftley, your original point was valid, but I have to say you're beating a dead horse... and not very well. Basically, you're trying to prevent anyone from saying, "People do stupid things in order to be cool," with the reasoning that "stupid things aren't cool." Well, maybe so, but that isn't the point... the point is that people do the stupid things because they think they're cool.

i think the thread has changed from pointless features to pointlessly trying to explain something to fire king... oh heh... it was just a joke... On 6/8/01 7:35 am LexyBitch wrote: "I was just using that as an example, actually. Banking was the first thing that came to mind. =)" |

as for magic battle final, it did need a banking system, players were dying, and losing gold, and losing there characters, if they had put there stuff in the bank before dying, then they could now happily go back and get the things they lost, at least i hope it worked that way, never heard any complaints i can help you with the disclaimers... but mine are not Kung Fu... my disclaimers are from the third order oh the Han (witch was previosly nameless exept for third order of the Han..) |

Spuzzum said that you should add features that add "meaning", not just "coolness." I'm a bit lost on this, because I've never found a game that was cool that didn't have a proportionate amount of pointfulness. My point here is that, if you add a meaningful addition to gameplay, then it's going to make your game cooler; and if you do something that makes your game cooler, then you've added something meaningful. What Spuzzum is talking about is if you add a completely pointless feature out of what amounts to developer peer pressure. I guess my statement was rather ambiguous, but fortunately you caught my drift. How Leftley interpreted it is exactly what I meant... |

ps.or maybe you mean something else........ Yes, I did. If I had said "Flying Monkeys", the analogy would have still remained the same. Sigh, English is shamefully ambiguous at times. Yeesh, don't overreact so much. =| |

One of the main reasons I'm not "cool" among my peers at school. * Spuzzum doesn't care. He pulls out a katana. Who's cool now, buddy?! |

I guess my statement was rather ambiguous, but fortunately you caught my drift. Nah, I just like bantering semantics pointlessly. Or rather, I like bantering semantics with a lack of pointfulness. |

are you sure you dont write for monty pithon? you have that oddness about your humor... Significantly, the vast majority of Monty Python's material was made before I was born. I think that lowers the odds of me having been a writer for them down to at least less than a 50-50 shot, right off the bat. |
