Hey, I make both sides of the table. Ensya is totally graphical with low play value, FoomerMUD is totally non-graphical with high play value. I personally think they both have their good sides. But Ensya would not work well with FoomerMUD interface, and FoomerMUD would not work well with Ensya interface... Graphics or text, it depends what they're being used for. As with most text MUDs, TextMUD (which really should be renamed TextRPG...) is about telling a story, not viewing pretty graphics.

nevertheless I still cling to my hopes that one day... maybe in a distant future... a supergame will emerge and deliver us from the various genesis rips and dbz games. lol

I think the only way to get rid of the "various genesis rips and dbz games" is to get rid of the people who make them. Or at least hide them in a dark corner somewhere. But we don't need to get into that... |

I agree that in the cases of the best rpgs ever they had the best stories ever. but if I want to write an rpg I can do it by myself. again no offense, it takes all kinds to make the world go 'round or something like that.

sometimes in boring rpgs the only thing to hope for is the next bit of the storyline(maybe that is the basis behind all this wordy stuff.)

Yes and No.. I doubt you could keep a realistic Byond user controlled world going successfully. I think you can have a User controlled world with NPC assistance. The fact that your world is controlled by user, means that it NEEDS users to play. What will happen to your game when no one plays? Does everything just come to a halt? Or what if only 1 person plays? What kind of interaction would there be?
For Kemet I plan to knock everything down to resources, nothing will be sold with the new/ proc. Everything will have to be started at a resource level and built, smelted, handcrafted, and made. Also there will be a need to stock these items in the shops, and a way to get these items to the stores to stock, and makers of item to give to the traders to move around the land, and gathers to give the makers the items to make. But what kinda game would it be if no one played?? Also if no one has become a profession yet, how will anyone get started you ask?! NPC that act just like players. They will carry items, have lived that they live, and interact with players to keep things going. Thats where my complex AI system will come into play for Kemet. The stuff I got in there right now for the mobs running around mindlessly is just a mock-up AI to get things moving, but its not my final result. I have alot of data I'm just not using yet in the game's AI. LJR |

you didn't see but in other posts I put that this environment would be controlled by users through a guideline. A guideline that when has ample users evolves. But when it has few users it goes into sort of a dark age and reverts.

heheheh Actually, just thinking about it, you could prolly do a 3d world. Ive already seen some isometric 3d stuff around (or at least heard about it) And Im sure it would be possible to 'simulate' polygons. Itd just be math heavy, system heavy, and even at best possible speeds you woudlnt be able to get above the 10fps that byond refreshes at nativly ^^;;
