A game based on the old martial art films that would be built on all punches, kicks, throws, and other techniques of this nature or one that is based mainly on weapons such as swords or daggers. I may create the game to combine both but to start i wanted to know which one people would prefer.

Unarmed combat is almost always more thrilling -- there are simply more things that can be done with the head, fists, forearms, knees, and feet than can be done swinging, slashing, or thrusting with a weapon.

Yeah that was sorta of what I was thinking. Looking to add in tons of hand-to-hand combat moves believe will be more exciting and easier then making weapons with special moves which in turn means i might actualy get to finish this game instead of giving up(dam my laziness lol). Just make sure to make it so there is no clear cut best move. Ie, If its obvious uppercut does X amount more damage then anything else, your just going to uppercut your way through combat.
Having several 'best attacks', and making some types of attacks work better against differnt things (Ie, Low attacks are better on Monster1, but High attacks are better on Monster2 and 3). Also, throw in a rand() here and there, just too keep them on there toes, and screening the actual damage numbers is good too (Ie, 'You hit him for 10 HP' becomes 'He sure felt that one'). -DogMan |

I feel that you should have two groups, weapons users and martial artists. Martial artists use martial arts, weapons users fight with weapons.

Thanks for the comments folks, Got some good ideas on how to approach things now. Im far on version one now, I hadalot of coding done with my orginal game shi-yu that is now being rearanged and changed to be a much better game with some ugraded graphics too :). Hope to finish just a demo version so i can get a feel for what people think of its direction, and would like to see theguys who made suggestions come check it out
