Which battle system would you like to see more? Random battles like FF(turn or time based) or real time like Zelda and most games on BYOND? Or something different, I just don't want to make my game look like everyone elses.
Although i like real time battle systems, this causes a problem with 56kers who have lag. Turn bases is best for byond, but yet there are still some problems with it. Its normaly best to creat your own style of battle systems. Each game needs a diffrent style.

Make a system that when you go in to battle you spawn to
a battle zone like a small squar and fight real time in it from 1 to 4 monsters at a time so you get the best of both worlds

If you force enough of a delay between attacks, then even moderate lag shouldn't be a big problem. The real problem is when a game doesn't implement delays at all.

A game with random battles that are realtime.

Well, my game has a decent delay, but not a big one. I think 56kers have a disadvantage, but not a big one. Games with no delays give me the creaps, makes me think of pbags **shutters**
People always seem to forget the ultimately useful third option: auto-attacking. Specify a target, and your character moves to that target and proceeds to attack that target on its own free will until the target (or your character) is no more, or the player intervenes (by stopping combat, running away, or whatever else).

Not a bad idea. Final Fantasy Flashback had a system kinda like this, but I personally think that game sucked. I liked how the battle system was, but I didn't like the old FF style theme..not to mention the battles were confusing. Give it a whirl, I'd like to see it :)

Kinda like Runescape? And that won't cause lag for 56kers? Interesting...

Well, a 56Ker is pretty much guaranteed to lag in anything. ;-)

The main advantage of an auto-attack system is the fact that it cuts down on the number of commands that must be input; once your character starts attacking, the only thing that affects the outcome is your character's capabilities. In a realtime combat system (one that is typically referred to as an "action" system), each button press registers as a combat move, and that is detrimental to 56Kers because they might be reacting to something that happened on the server several seconds ago.
