That sounds pretty good...we'll go with that.
[edit] Slight change..."Deception" would work a lot better with the game. You still get credit [/edit] .::DBHavenMaster::. |

fan games aren't copyright infringement if you don't make money off of them.

Oh, wait, I remember you now, aren't you the person who tried making money off of my unfinished source code? Not sure why I was pissed off, I mean, it was such a little thing, espically since the code was so pathetic, and needed a A LOT

First of all, lets cover what I would NOT like to see on the hub: Anything that's basically "[some other game] Online", anything based on any other game, anything based on a cartoon series (DBZ or whatever else) or a movie (Matrix, 2F2F, etc...), low-quality RPGs, games based on other BYOND games (Monster World, Monster World Online, Monster World: The Arena, Super Monster World, and on and on and on...). I think that pretty much covers it. I mean seriously, making a game that is not based on something else is really not that hard.
Now, what I do want to see: Strategy games. Games like Incursion and LaserWars, where you play with a few other people to build up your empire, conquer other people, manage your empire and try become more prosperous than everyone else, or just plain try to outsmart other people in some bizzare setting. "Gauntlet" style games. The Gauntlet could have been fun, but it didn't have enough variety and relied too much on quick movement, which on BYOND, is bad. BYOND is really better at making turn-based games (either realtime turns, every few seconds or whatever, or the single-player when-you-do-something-next-turn-comes kind). I haven't been able to think of much to put in a Gauntlet style game, but I'd love to have a heap of ideas to work with, a version of BYOND that forces single player, and an option to create custom mazes with a map editor. Decent RPGs with something to explore. The only two RPGs on BYOND that I've ever really liked were Morte and Eternal World. Neither of them were especially great, but they were "better than average" at least, and had one specific thing that most RPGs on BYOND seem to lack: Something to explore. I can't stand RPGs were the goal is to wander around killing as much as possible to become more powerful so you can kill more powerful stuff. That's not an RPG, that's garbage. I like worlds where you can roam around and explore, where special goodies were owned by those who found them, often exploring dangerous regions (the goal is to stay alive, not to kill stuff) in search of valuable treasure. Morte had that, and Eternal World had that. I haven't played any other RPGs that had that. Anything that comes with customization options. I don't mean the option to choose your characters stats in an RPG or to give them equipment, I mean the option to create custom maps, monsters, items, dungeons, cars, racetracks, classes, ships, or whatever else your game utilizes. If you build a game spaceships (Star Traders), allow people to build custom ship classes. If you build a game that involves racing (Racing Game), allow people to customize the cars and tracks. If you build a game that uses dungeon maps ( So that's what I want. Of course, I have nothing against games where you just go around building stuff for fun. Monster World and some little game that I can't remember the name of by Deadlocke were quite fun, even though they had no point. (Kind of like SimCity.) |

Oh I remember some of it. There was some sort of witness, or a secret tape that was being carried around town or something. You had a spy, BUT, the trick was you could move your own spy, as well as others. The key to the game was to move your spy closest to the witness/information or obatin it some how. Or there was a few pieces of information that you needed to gather or something. Anyways, the key was NOT to give away your spy (distingushed by color), or else people would just move it back.

Just force Leftley to re-make Delve. What is this Delve! game you people keep talking about? It sounds much like this idea for a game styled after the classic arcade game Gauntlet, but which I have never ever put any work into due to the massively graphical nature of such a game. Surely it would be insane to build something like that as a solo project, drawing and animating everything by hand, so I'm holding off on any such project until I either get the hardware, software, and expertise to render fully animated humanoid and animal figures in 3D or else find a reliable contact who has such things. |
My all-time two favorite genres are tactical action games and turn-based fantasy strategy wargaming, with a close third being business/empire sim type games. I guess I could call (MMO)RPGs fourth, but given how much effort they take and how wide a genre that is (there are plenty of RPG styles which I just can't stand at all), I wouldn't really recommend them without a very solid development team.

I thought that button displayed a list of every single fan game that sucked on BYOND, and automatically adds theirs to it?
