Let's get straight to the point.
I am making a game "Dolores Vindicta" (Meaning "Greif and Revenge" or "The Greif of Revenge") which is going to be a Multi-playerable Roleplaying Game.
I was wondering, how should I do the battles? There are many ways to do it, and I can't decide on which one to use.
- You run around on the world map, as do the monsters. If they come in contact with you they will damage you, and if you press Attack or a Skill verb, you attack back.
- You run around on the world map, as do the monsters. If you come in contact with one, both you and the monster are unable to move, and have to take it in turns to Attack or use a Skill on each other.
- You run around on the world map, as do the monsters. If you come in contact with one you appear on another "Batlle Screen" and you take it in turns to Attack or use Skills.
- You run around on the world map, but the monsters don't. As you run around their is a chance of a random battle, if it occurs you appear on another "Battle Screen" and you take it in turns to Attack or use Skills.
I am really against number 1. And I am pretty sure 2 or 3 would be better than 4. Only problem with 2 is that you look pretty stupid just standing there, occasionally attacking or taking damage, unable to move until someone dies. Only problem with 3 is that I don't know how to do it!
Please may I have your opinions?

On the City maps, there were monsters and you had to fight them in real-time combat (outside in like forests), and on the world maps, i wanted to have random encounters that places the person onto a new battle field with a random amount of monsters to fight in realtime combat aswell. With leaving the random encounter, i wanted to have it so touching the edge of the area would teleport the user back to the world map where they first encounted the monster.
