I was thinking about how players can be the same skin color and hair style but still be able to tell them apart. Then I thought about battle scars, where if players get knocked out while they were hit in the face they would get a scar. There would be different styles of scars for a variety of different places. I think this is a good idea sort of, what do you think?
Depends on how big a part combat plays in your game. If combat takes place once a minute as in most RPG's then it's a bad idea. Players end up covered in scars.

My game isnt like that and everytime you got knocked out you wouldnt get a permanent scar but maybe one that is there for a while then goes away.

If it is not permanent then that doesn't do a lot for being able to distinguish who someone is. The next time you see someone their scars might be totally different and the character wouldn't be recognised. If, however, you mean recognizing on a temporary basis just so you know which guy is your enemy and which is your friend if you get mixed up in battle, then that is a decent idea.

For scars to be noticable, they would have to be over-proportioned. A scar that is only a couple pixels would be difficult to notice unless the players have a hard time getting a tan and the scars are bright red.

Some are permanent some are temporary

I personnaly think it is a good idea, however I do not think it will work. Unless your players are 4 tiles big then the scars will either not be noticed, or you will not see anything apart from the scars. Also, if the permanent scars build up to much you end up looking like your own shadow! (Being completely black an' all)

Good idea though!

Scars tend to be lighter than your skin, not black. ;)

Also, you shouldn't get a scar each time you get hit, but only when it's deep enough to leave a scar (Very rare critical hits, extremely sharp weapons). I'm 15 and only have a couple of noticable scars (If even).

Yeah but have you activly engaged in combat where the purpose is to kill the opposition :)? You're going to get a lot more scars if you activly participate in combat since it doesn't take an expertly crafted weapon to cause a scar.
