I'm curious, do any of the forum crawlers think that there has ever been an acceptable Dragonball game, wand if not, what do you think would have to be done to make it so? I have only found Dragonball Epic to be truly acceptable (If you excuse the RPGMaker95 graphics, that is.

Like I've been saying for god knows how long, it's very hard to do but still possible. The key is not to follow everything from Dragonball to DragonballGT. If you do it will be impossible to balance (Radditz could destroy Goku from the beggining of Dragonball just by looking at him, think what someone from GT could do).
I think the ideal time frames would be either the start of Dragonball to the end of Dragonball (with the combat being very tactical), or Saiyan Saga to just before the end of the Frieza Saga (no SSJ, no Icers, with combat being PL based in a more power gamer friendly environment). |
The problem with dragonball on byond is that currently all 'Dragonball' is to the community is a PL variable, and punching bags that increase the pl variable.
Generally, the only reasons that Dragonball games are made: 1.Zeta 'code' is easy to get, and the 'game' is already 'done' for you, and 2.Everyone wants to make the best dragonball game! Now, there are a few exceptions, these mainly being the non-zeta games. If you wanted to make an acceptable Dragonball game (acceptable relative to the community in general, which would probably be next to impossible) I'd say a good start would be original programming and graphics, as well as a better game concept then increasing powerlevel by hitting a punching bag. I would say, however, that it would be better to make a completely original game at this point, since Dragonball has been beaten by an ugly stick endlessly on byond. |
It seems to me that most of the Dragonball games on BYOND are designed to as places for friends to hangout, rather than something designed to attract serious players. Think of them as DBZ-themed graphical chats where you can fight each other (or just attack a punching bag) if things get slow.
Either that or the concept of a game has degraded into simply increasing a variable so its larger than everyone else's variable... That sounds like some e-mail spam I've been getting. |

Hee... all natural pl-enlargement technique.

Hopefully by now everyone knows my opinion on anime in general so I'm not going to bother stating my opinion. But due to the sheer number of Dragonball games being made I can only assume there are an equally large number of people who'll play them but most of them don't tend to be forum goers, so this is probably the wrong place to go for a positive responce. |

I do not think it is possible to make an acceptable DBZ game, interms of it being anything like the series which none of these games are like.
1. In the DBZ games, you get to pick your race. Every race is basicly equal and learns the same things. If you wanted to make it realistic at all the game would have to have incredibly unbalanced stats. For instance, if Picolo fuses with Kami, he still wouldn't be even close as strong as ssj 4 goku. 2. The most common way to train in a dbz game is to use a punching bag. What kind of a moron punches, gets tired, rests, and repeats all day? In the series they definatly don't do that. 3. It is very easy to become super saiyan, and almost everyone does. In the series a supersaiyan is very rare, even when there was a huge amount of saiyans left in the world. In my opinion, the only way to make an acceptable dbz game is if it was only 1 player. |

I see what you mean. A namek would never really match up to ssj4. But for multiplayer purposes, the game has to be more well suited and balanced so you dont have all saiyan players.
DBO has more than 10 ways that I can remember counting to train, I believe that this time 'round they are not even in the game. (can't remember, but pretty sure) You no longer can just enrage and randomly get SSJ. You have to Have a certain um, well, a certain 'thing' or level to obtain SSJ, and i'm not talking about pl. This 'thing' is rather hard to obtain, you need 10 to go ssj, and even then, you still have to enrage and get it randomly AFTEr collectiing the 10 'things'. If you are good that is. If your evil, you must collect as many as twice as more. Good and Evil Alignments have a WAY , WAY bigger impact in your gameplay in DBO. If you do not see this important factor, it will lead to many confusions when something happens related to your alignment. In short, atleast TRY DBO for a few days, when it is open to public. |

i got an idea, why dosent byond erace all the DBZ game's and git every DB Game creator to make a really big one. They could contribute a trademark of themselvs to the game.
(it sound's crazy and dumb but we could make it some how!) |

It's crazy, dumb, and nobody in the world could manage it.

Yes there can be an acceptable Dragonball game, if someone could be bothered to code their OWN ideas and not rip coding of the same damned game everyone seems to love to rip. Zeta.

I dont agree..I think that alot of the people making these games just dont put much thought into the gameplay model which is what most Dragonball games lack..why can bandai put out kick ass Db games on console?Because they are taking the Dragonball worlds sensibilities and translating it to a game or games that make sense based on what is actually in the series and not trying to add what they think would go nice in a Db game.and like someone else i read said there are no punching bags in Dragonball. Not exactly accurate. Notice that in the Db universe each character has proportional strength and weakness. Take brolli for instance..he was ssj and he beat the crap out of the Zfighters..who were all ssj.its not cause he is a sayian but because his strength was out of proportion with the other sayians. Same can be said here not every namek or any race for that matter should have the same levels of power just because of their race(it has something to do with it but its not the begining and end of it).The power of each character had alot to do with the individual POTENTIAL of each character. The people who make Db games on byond dont take this into consideration. Thats why when you play the games its just a numbers game... 2. The most common way to train in a dbz game is to use a punching bag. What kind of a moron punches, gets tired, rests, and repeats all day? In the series they definatly don't do that. I agree definately. Heres my idea for a good way to train. Notice there are grav in the byond games. What if someone actually made smarter grav. grav shouldnt just effect the person walking, flying etc it should also effect your ability to fight in the area with the grav.ie you shouldnt be able to throw a punch at someone unless you've sparred considerably against a certian amount of opponents or trained with sparring partners in the grav. 3. It is very easy to become super saiyan, and almost everyone does. In the series a supersaiyan is very rare, even when there was a huge amount of saiyans left in the world. See this is the problem..most games on byond all there is to do in the game is just train, train train transform, train train train transform etc. theres no gameplay, no purpose for the training other than to fight in pvp.I think that if there was more to do more guys to fight..perhaps make it where the areas where the player goes mobs show up for you to fight(kinda like randomly generated dungeons in some rpg games) and over like 1000 fights you get a minor power boost, then 2000 for the next etc, etc. Cause in the Db universe the reason for character getting strong is a number of reasons. Intense training is only 1 of those reasons. Some characters get stronger fighting alot of opponents, while others just train until they find their potential and go byond it. In my opinion, the only way to make an acceptable dbz game is if it was only 1 player. I disagree..I think a db game would work if someone would stop using the zeta engine or the same engine over and over and really work at creating an engine that more acurately grasps the Db universe. |
I would say, check into DBO by Vakir and SonGokou. Their game has *all* new Icons, the coding has been completely Re done from square one, and they have the game set up to be the most realistic to the dbz series.
I wont say alot about the features etc, because I dont know what Is acceptable to release and what not, but As a beta tester, I can tell you it's a very nice game. It will not be easy to play it, most 'noobs' will be scared off at the difficulty it is to go SSJ, as well as returning to earth, etc. Like I said it's very realistic to the anime.
Only Humans can make custom moves, and teach other players even. Many features. And they all work wonderfully , there is no 'alpha testing' and/or 'incomplete coding' in the game, If it's not complete and bug free, it isn't put in the game until it is ready, and the atmosphere for production is very nice and 'go get'em' attitude.
CHeck out DBO when it's out. And talk to SonGokou and/or Vakir if you get the chance, ya know ask about it.
