Just some advice, try not to make typos when requesting someones help on the forum. You're less likely to get help with internet slang such as "sux" and multiple typos.
|
And it's "quest". Q is almost always followed by a U. =P (Except for Qantas, but that's an acronym, so they're allowed.)
|
There's a telecommunications company named "Qwest"...
However, as these guys have pointed out, the word for the missions that players go on in video games is "quest"... As for the question at hand, I'm not going to come up with anything specific, but here's a few general quest types used in video games: Find an item and bring it back to an NPC Defeat a certain enemy (usually some form of "sub-boss") (Generally, most games just stop at those two...lol But I'll try to go on...) Deliver an item from NPC to another NPC Find an NPC Guard an NPC Gather a certain number of a certain item Get to a certain place Destroy series of targets Well, I'm done brainstorming... Also note that any of the above can be modified to include a time limit (and most often are) |
One thing to remember.
NEVER make a quest single out a player of revolve around an event that is only supposed to happen evry thousand years of make it so they have to find a sword that there is supposed to be only one of in the whole world. That is just STUPID. It's an MMORPG, not an RPG. There are many people playing not just one guy who is the focu of the game. Make a quest revolve around a NPC run Guild, like an initiation. Go get a dragons heart to prove you are worthy to be promoted to the next rank or something. |
What about: Survive - an assasin/several assasins have been sent to kill you. All you have to do is kill them when they come for you. As they are going after you, you can set up an ambush, as long as you don't go walking about.
I had several more ideas, but as I wrote out the above the ideas all ran away. Stupid ideas! ~Ease~ |
Which is different from provoking some random monster... how?
And how would you sign up? "Hello, I'm looking to be assassinated." |
You could make a starting quest, for the begining of the game. You start out as a basic peasant. An old man asks you to deliver something. On the way you witness an evil wizard, whitch, or necromancer doing some evil deed. And maybe they see you and place a curse on you (Turned into a frog maybe? That might be fun =D). Then theres a few more events that turn you back and a few really good conversations with some random NPC (best if it's the same one that turns you back..) and you deicide to set out and fight evil.
Sorry if that didn't make sense. But you could sneak in a control explanation (Which they almost always do in the official video games...) |
That was very rude, Garthor, you should consider not being that horrible to people.
Hehe. I have no idea what this post is about, but i can sort of tell by the title, so uhm... a quest for gold where you fight a big dragon and have to stab him in the ass to defeat him... Later. --AZA -NanoPlay |

Why not have a 'dynamic' quest system -
The shopkeeper asks you to get some swords from a blacksmith. A party of bandits come and buy the swords you gave the shopkeeper. The bandits attack a village, and you have to fight them off. The bandits damaged the fields, so you have to get some seeds from the next village. Etc. Etc. |
Because the complexity involved in doing something like that would either require someone who majored in AI programming, or would be no better than scripted events.
