I agree with Grei. Want something new to dragonball? Make an arcade/fighting, hell maybe even a puzzle game. The fact that it's dragonball will still make me not play it, but at least I'll think of it more highly :P Break out of the crummy RPG setting (The pl-boostin', gm-askin', pbag-smackin', newbie-bashin' good time.).

There is a problem to this with BYOND. If there is an action-type game like 2D arcade fighting, obviously the one with the better connection to the server will win. But for puzzles and other types of dbz game, I agree. Puzzles are pretty easy but completely different from zeta..ehrm..dbz games. As for the RPG setting in dbz games, if you can make an open-ended system, it would be nice and would surely bring in some people. Most dbz games on byond have the same old zeta icons or edited zeta icons. Only a few have non-zeta "original" icons like DBZ Unforgettable Powers, Legend of the Dragonballs, and of course, my game lol. Other games uses icons found in websites or Legacy of Goku ripped icons. But one problem with theses RPG-based zeta is most of them seems to use the Power Level as the main life variable. I mean, getting to 250,000 power level hp, is very easy in dbz games but in other games RPG's it would be impossible or would take forever. But I'd wouldn't mind and would like to see a side-view scrolling/fighting dbz game sometimes.

yeah i did that, monsters who roam the map that respawn and quests, sadly people dont utilize them as much as the punching bag because they are used to it, and im not drawing a different crowd at all lol. These are all ByondDBZers who are used to the way things are and very resistant to change of habits, you can yank the complex out of them, but if you try to change the very simple things, they get cranky :o.

Yes. Most people that plays dbz game on BYOND gets used to punching bag trainings. These people often criticize zeta type games and zeta's training types cause they are tired of it. Whenever they login a new game that is completely different with a completely different training type and has no p-bags at all, they 90% of the time complain and wants to use p-bags and since there is no p-bags in the new game, they leave and never come back.

100% true.

People claim that yeah we hate all zeta and wont ever play it, so you make a non zeta game and the DB BYOND fans say this game sucks and the rest of the BYOND community doesn't even try the game properly.

I've made(and am in the process of improving) a DB game which doesn't use gravity(in the way zeta did) or punch bags. It's training based on how "good" you are in life. So if you have a good reflex action, you'll perform well in certain excersises. If you're intelligent you'll perform well in other excersises etc etc.

If you don't plan to use the Gravity Training idea, many users will be disappointed. Instead of throwing the idea out completely, why not beef it up with some original programming (Dragonball Online is a perfect example of this, we've got nearly a flawless gravity training).

The thing is, no one likes working on multi-tiled games, especially when you're using 3 icons for the base character...

I hate to say this ... but I've grown quite fond of the "chibi factor" that many Dragonball games have to offer. I like how your characters are a stout 1x1 tile tall, it all just seems so synchronized with me, I guess. Legend of the Dragonballs features 2 icon tall icons, but I've never been truely comfertable with such a drastic change, despite how dead secksy they look ;-).

The monster killing thing is used too much and frankly quite boring...

I've said this again and again, EVERY single online roleplaying game features some sort of killing NPCs. Them growing "old" is comical, reason being they'd be simply out of business if nobody no longer likes them, but indeed, their businesses are now stronger than ever before. Beef up your NPC scripts with some cool ways a player might do to another player (for example, they might Zanzoken behind a players back).
The way I see it the market is too flooded to make a good DB/Z/GT game.
I can make a great game, but if the players can't 'train' in front of a random object while chatting they'll be upset and go off to find another game where the creator is willing to use cheap gimmicks to draw in players.

With the ripping situation it's even worse because even if all the game makers wont fold to a players demands, that player can go out and 'make' their own game.
I'm not against players going out and making their own games, it's just by making another DB/Z/GT game they're making things worse in an already bad situation.

[Edit] Just thought I'd note this isn't an attack on DB/Z/GT games. I honestly couldn't care less if you make twenty DB/Z/GT games. These are just some of my views on why it's not possible to make a good (successful) DB/Z/GT game.
I didn't even go into a bunch of stuff on why DBZ doesn't work as a MMORPG, so consider yourself lucky. =P

I've already covered all the points you've mentioned above in DB: Fighting Spirit.
Do Not:

- Make it similar to any MMORPGs out there.
- Remake DB/Z/GT in the form of a game.
- Allow players to reach a powerlevel of 1,000,000.
- Use powerlevels as a major thing.
- Expect you can make it similar to the show in any way. It'd have to be a 3D game for that to happen. And I don't even think anyone on BYOND could make a 3D game with BYOND yet.

Do:

- Make it fun, and not repetive.
- Make it somewhat based on DB/Z/GT
- If you even have a powerlevel system, which you shouldn't, make it a calculation of the person's attributes, fighting ability, skill, or even their ranking.
- Make it original! A DBZ puzzle game would be pretty cool, but another DBZ RPG with repetive training would just be boring.

If you follow those, and many other rules, then I might like it.

Zanzoken is an after image attack, not a teleportation move, common misconception.
In response to DeathAwaitsU
I have an idea, ban anybody on byond who distributes stolen code, and hide all dragonball entries that arent 100percent original or at least bring something ot the table besides reconfigurating gms.

:< im depressed, we put a great deal of time perfecting an original male icon, and it was stolen so much people refer to it as the zeta icon sometimes, and that hurts.
In response to Masterdan
Well, wasn't your Gekisen game a zeta rip when it first started?
In response to Masterdan
Unless he DOES think it's a teleportation move, he could have easily meant the NPC creates an after image and then appears behind you to attack.
