Hi, i'm making some sort of mario mmorpg, whatever.. still g2 think of how to do it all, and what to add..
but, shall i do it 2d (sidewalk), 3d (as in most RPGs on BYOND) or isometric (most 3D byond can get)?
Make everyone monsters in the Mario World bent on smahsing the AI Mario Bros. and snatching up the Princess. Mishief and mayhem for bonus points. Having everyone play Mario or Luigi wouldn't be much fun.

That wouldn´t be fun either -_-

And i'm talking about a MMORPG, many chars... i dunno how i'm gonna do it.. maybe just everyone 1 char, so there's a player limit..
i dunno, just gonna find out about something..

What kind of madness has gotten ahold of you? Do you know how cool it would be to be a hammer bro and team up with a goomba and a koopa troopa to raid the mushroom kingdom and steal away the princess all the while offing some mushroom men? Maybe even dumping a mario/luigi/toad boss into a lava pit at the end of each world?

That would be neato byond belief. If you don't want to do it do you mind if I do?

Agreed; I'd spend hours throwing hammers and shells at little mushroom men that just ran away in total fear of me... It'd be AWESOME.

I wouldn't want to be a goomba, or a koopa troopa, though... I'd very much enjoy being a koopa soldier, or a hammer brother, or maybe even a shy guy... So long as I got an awesome slingshot and those helicopter wings... Or a pogo stick.

Seriously, how lame would it be to walk around with thirty other marios? I despise mario. He's just some mustachioed moron. The thing that made Mario RPG cool was Geno. Wanna know what made Paper Mario lame? Lack of cool supporting characters. Some of the bad guys were cool, though.

Which one? I wouldn't know about the N64 Paper Mario, but the characters in the Gamecube seemed fine to me.
...although Flurrie, a party member, kinda freaked me out a bit.
~Edit~
Had a hard time finding a pic. Fan art of Flurrie, but it looks accurate to me.

Idea:
isometric world, just like the 2d mariolevels, but no in 3d.
Every player selects 1 char. (so.. a player limit of 5 players per server or something).
Then they just fight, hop, whatever.. trough that world..
Like an isometric sidewalk :).

And i might add levels where u play as enemy, and kick mario ass.

Yes that would be a cool idea to me . I would play it.

Umm what exactly do you mean by a koopa soldier, by koopa troopa I mean the little turtle guys, both red and green with wings and without.

Since shaker death seems to be wanting to do something more like the original mario games I'm going to go ahead with my idea of a koopa-rpg.

I really want to see what shaker comes up with though. Bring it on.

You are talking about side-view, not isometric.

The N64 one.

A Koopa soldier was one of the guys who looked like a cross between a turtle and a lizard, but wore a blue helmet with a spike on the top, and walked upright. They were in Mario RPG, and Paper Mario. The Koopa Wizard things were pretty cool too.

This guy?

^ is a koopa troopa, with armor on, but still just a koopa troopa.

Also, the wizards are called magikoopa's

Note: I have never played paper mario.

I think he means a old arcade fighter style system. Like Final Fight, Battletoads, Double Dragon, etc.

You go Crackfiend!

I always thought a reverse-Mario would be cool, similar but opposite. It really fits with the multi-player environment as well. There's only 1 Mario, but countless Koopa. I hope this goes well for you, and glad I could get the ball rolling.

Thanks xooxer. I was kinda wondering what my next thing for byond would be. I'd hit a bit of developers block. (different from coders block, I know what I need to code just not quite how to do it yet.) And was just waisting time on random little projects that would never see the light of day. But it looks like Ive found something that you all can enjoy.

Now back to work with me.

(somewhere in the distance a whip cracks and someone shouts "work faster you crackfiend you" Whipcrack "Work I say Work")

Uh oh they found me. gotta go.

No no no, i mean an isometric sidewalk..

like.. isometric.. where u can only walk 1 way..
1 straight way... like in the mario 2d worlds... but now, isometric style!

btw, i can get many sprites from the internet, but.. maybe i'd need some more icons.. so if any isometric iconartists are here.. contact me.

An idea for a Mario game like this came into my head once, except it was going to be a team-based game. Superstars vs. Koopa-baddies in a huge war across the level. They were going to have their own little castles with supplies etc.
Hope this game comes through :D.

What?

Look at games like Ninja Turtles for the Nintendo.

Basically, it's a sidescroller, but you have a wide area of tile to walk on, rather than the Mario method of sidescroller.
