Ok, my RPG turned out bad, since most people hate RM2K graphics, and old school RPG stats, so this time, im making a different, easier game
Name: GunZ Online: BYOND Edition(Working Name =P)
Type: (Cooperative)RPG Type Shooter
Modes: Free For All(1 map for all players)
Versus(1-1 on a small map)
Team Versus(2-6 vs 2-6 on a somewhat bigger map)
Guild Versus(no need to explain)
Tournament(Versus, just tournament system added)
Anyone got more suggestions?
Weapons: (Double)Guns, (Double)Swords, and Grenades, Medical Kits, maybe flare grenades or smoke bombs
Other things: Different types of Ammo, Cheap Ammo is Free, Good ammo costs some, and Super Ammo costs allot
It'll have a Level system/Item shop thingy just like in GunZ, youll get Gold and EXP for each kill u make, Leveling does not increase damage or ANYTHING, its just needed to wear better clothing
Things I want to know:
Self-Made Account System or BYOND Key system?
(my best idea)Make 1 Savefile Server!, every server that is being hosted can read from a database on a seperate webserver? This means you can host anything you want, without being afraid of people hacking Client-Side Saves, or Hosts editing Player Saves ;)(dont know if this is possible, should be though)
Add Swords?
Add Ammo?
Add a HUD?

I love old skool RPG stats. They rox. As far as the GunZ-inspired game, be careful with your "one server to rule them all". If you can write a program to change the stats on that server, I probably can too. What stops me from writing my own BYOND program to tell your server that I'm level one billion?

First of all, you need my username/password to write to a database ;)

Does that mean that every time I level, you will personally update my stats in the database? (answer truthfully!)

It won't work. Making a 2D game based off of a 3D game almost never works, especially when they're fastpaced shooters. But, if you're going to do it, add swords.

Well if your level determines what clothing you'll be able to wear, then what will be the purpose of leveling? Will there be anyway to acquire new skills and/or improving certain skills? Or will your abilities be determined by the type of weaponry you have access to?
I've personally noticed that with having the ability to increase skills and gain new ones, this becomes the focus of the game and individuals only try to become the "strongest" player in the game and take joy in killing new comers. If you want the focus to be placed on gameplay rather than leveling then this should be tackled very quickly. Another thing I've noticed with a weaponry based battling system is that people will recruit new people and equip them with strong weapons thus allowing them to become stronger faster than those who actually put in the "man hours" to become strong. Some possible solutions: ---------------------------- *Setting a limit to how much a player can train on a specific ability in a given amount of time. *Making it impossible for individuals to give weapons and armor away to others or having the trading system based on players' levels (Similar levels should be able to aquire similar items of similar strength and rarity) This would force players to put in the work to reach a new level to acquire better things. *Creation of "safe zones" for new comers like in Failed Fate (and I'm sure some other games of which I've not been introduced to) These are just a few things. I'm sure there are plenty of ways to keep the playing field challenging, somewhat equal, and still fun. I'm also sure that most of these individuals who rip games and rename them, don't know the definition of any of those words but....oh well. Life goes on. |

No, the game will write to the database using my username and password =P, although, thatll be in one of the LATE LATE stages of development >_>, Im sticking to server side saving for now, then switch to CLient Side(Encrypted, so you cant use a save editor)

k, swords will be in, and look at Naruto Online, they had awesome fighting in that ;),This game is basicly the same, just that walls will be in ur way and u use gunz not Jutsu, also, preventing noobs from wearing elite weapons is stopped by Level Requirements for Weapons

My end goal will be that everyone can host their own server, which writes to 1 central 24/7 save serverand if it is down, saves to the server

I'll notice that whenever stats are updated, three variables are sent: your name, your password, and the new score. Guess what? Now I not only have the means to send whatever stat scores I want to your central server, I also have your name and password. You were just h4xed. :-( |

Sounds like a nice idea, but if you're going to try and take a 3d game concept please atleast try to make it multi-tiled to give that sense. Maybe even you can set your mouse as a pointer for your gun even!? And when I play Gunz I always had this idea of an amazing level about it being based on roof tops with obstacles and such, and in the gaps of the rooftops these red/yellow clouds. :/
