is it possible to mae a lowest form of mmorpg on here? i kinda wanted to make a rpg.. but ith a twist.. you know.. for example: you can start as a civillan before you want to start as.. lets say a : Knight or a Mage you also arent bound to magetry or hand to hand fighting you could just kick monsters into oblivion.. for example: a slime monster is bothering you.. no problem! you just rear back and drop kick it into the sky.. you'll get a xp bonus and money bonus! just dont try it to evil armor wearing muscular clueless man knights.. but like i was saying.. is it possible?
Yep, very easily. Not much substance there though.
dude this is BYOND lol, Online Functions is part of the whole enchilada, anyways ima stop being an ass lol...actually Byond is very capable of doing almost any or wth actually any genre of games capable exept 3D(well it can be done but its 1)very hard or 2) using another software +Byond) and rpg like u said is very likely to be made simple lol, just learn DM(DreamMaker) which is the language used to program in Byond and get some icons and start working!

Do try Byond for atleast 2 weeks for everyday atleast 1-3 hours doing everything the DM Guide tells u to,it might be boring at the start but wth after learning u can make anything u want with it so...Go begin and dont ask alot till atleast 1 week of working with it <_< Good Luck
NO RPGs on BYOND are MMORPG. MMORPG stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game. If, however, you want to make a game like what you said, that's pretty simple. You can either learn DM from the DM Guide, the Tutorials, and DM Reference. Some people also may download demos and libraries and study those. A piece of advice, do not steal or rip coding and/or icons, people frown upon it.

What how does that make sense? Of course there can be an MMORPG on BYOND. It's not about how many players you have. There are non-BYOND games out there that only have like 8 - 15 players yet they are still called MMORPGS. A game isn't all about players, it's about the gameplay.

But being a MMORPG is not about gameplay. It's about being a particular kind of game.

Note that he didn't say that no BYOND games could be a MMORPG. He just said that none are at the moment. He could be right. The question is, is the game world massive enough for it to be considered a MMORPG?

More importantly, who cares?
It's possible, but a word of warning: very few people like starting games on the lowest order of things. They vastly prefer to have at least some freedom in their next choice of action.

For instance, if you start a game as a penniless servant, then you can't just decide "hay ill go into a dungeon and pwn some monstrs"... you have to do mindless housekeeping until you can afford your first dagger, let alone your first sword.

Players despise this sort of railroad, Minnie Haul gameplay. They want you to strike a good balance between initial options, initial restrictions, and semi-tangible rewards.
MMORPG on BYOND? I don't think so, if you are saying what I think you are saying you would be refering it as Massive Multi Player Online RPG. And BYOND just dosen't do massive... I never have seen any MASSIVE games on BYOND.

Now a ORPG would be different, [Online RPG] like Dragon Warrior Online or Mystic Journey.

Anyways, in a smaller sense, yeah, you can make a ORPG, but Massive Multi Player? No... I at least don't think so.

Your job idea is quite alot like mine, I got it from Aldons Crossing.

What about Maeva? I've seen it and it seems pretty massive to me. Already it seems to have a large fan base. It also, from what I've read, has a large map.

Well its possible, but who here has a server with 100mbps internet speeds, twin processors and 2gbs of Ram...

I think its only becouse non of us have that kinda hardware that we cant create an MMO, so BYOND sticks with MOGs of upto 100+ players at a time and some actually dont lag with that much ppl on, im a dial up user and i have played DB Rebirth and its funny lol...the only game i dont lag and its actually good, maybe its his coding but the server must be pump also i belive

Majins and Mystics Remastered at one time had 88 players on at one time, do you consdier that Massive? I don't. I consider that mediacore.

Naruto Online had 150 sometimes.. o.o

u do know that we talking about BYOND right..... so by Byond standards 80+ is pretty high, 150+ is way up there...anyways the point is crappy server = laggy good server = nonlaggy soin the end Byond games can go "Massive" its just all about the hardware + internetspeed.

I disagree, most of these servers who are claiming 150+ players, usually have something weird going on, and when you log in there are actully a lot less players.

Some games boast 75 players, but when you log in, theres only really like 45 or less.

I dont know if its a BYOND bug or what, but I am not only talking about the server status var, but also just on the hub entry.

Nope, there's a 'Who' button ;).
