Okay so I'm gonna be making a new game (getting bored of my current project..) I've already asked for help and been rescued by Lummox JR. But I was wondering what people thought of my latest string of ideas! ^_^ Okay, not all of them are origanal, I'll say now..but yeah..
And quickly so you don't get confused: the games gonna be single player.
*Hunger
Most games I've played with hunger in make it decrease incredibly quickly, thus making hunger a pain in the butt. So I decided if I was gonna add it, I'd slow the decrease a bit. So it's not eat something, step-step-step, back to foodshop to eat. Enough to let you get through a nice chunk of the storyline before your tummy starts grumbling.
WITH THIS comes:
*Food Preferances
Now, I dunno about you, but I'm not particulary fond of curry. So I was thinking of making your character have a specific food preferance - they don't like this but they like that and so on. This could affect how much your hunger will refill.
*Friendships
When you visit a shop a lot in reality, the shop staff get to know you and (hopefully) like you. I thought it'd be cool if you could develop relationships with the NPCs of the game. Possible perks could be that shopkeeper you made friends with lowers prices for you, or that rich kid gives you something to help you out in the game. Not necessary, but possibly a fun thing to do.
*Voice acting
THIS would be a lot of fun to do! I recently got a microphone as well! My brother could do guy voices, and I could do girl voices. Plus we have a lot of friends who could help us out. I don't know, it could be good fun. We'd only use voices for the more important parts of the game, cutscenes and the like where just text won't do. OF course there'll be subtitles too... I'm just worried about how big the file'd end up being...and being caught by my parents..
Me: I will never lose to you! (scene between rivals lol =D)
Parents: WTF o_O'
*Jobs
A time comes when it just gets boring to slash monster guts everywhere for cash. This is the time you could go get a job back in town. For the pure reason of cash. Maybe, the more skilled you get the more cash you get?
*Skills
I was thinking up a list of skills that I could involve:
Cooking, Woodcutting, Fishing, Needlework, Blacksmith..ing...
That's all I could come up with. Rawr. With an increased Cooking level, you can cook your own food rather than buying it, and the higher the level the more filling it is! With an increased Woodcutting level, you can get better at, surprise surprise, cutting wood. You can perhaps use the wood you get for making campfires? With an increased Fishing level, you can catch better and better fish, and the better the fish, the more filling/higher sell price. Needlework lets you make clothes which you can sell. Blacksmithing lets you make armour and weapons, along with other metal items.
*NPC Routines
After playing LoZ: Majoras Mask, I thought it'd be awesome if NPCs have a daily schedule! If you've played MM you'll know what I mean. Like, at sunset, most people go home, but some people carry on working til late night. Some people only come out from their locked houses at this time too. See? Could be used for quests n stuff..
I have more but I seem to be unable to find words to describe my ideas. Poo! =(
If anyone bothered to read that rather large post, can I have your opinions, feedback and/or suggestions? Please and thank you's! ^_^

Some of those, I like. In WoW, good food will make you "Well Fed", you will gain temp stat bonus's. Perhaps making food regain health or mana, and favorite food would give bonus's. For example, you character is a fruit lover, eating an apple might energize him, giving him +3 to agility for 5 minutes. This will encourage eating while not making it required. |

Interesting... That's an interesting idea... If I get free time, I may play with it myself.

Hunger: I dropped it myself in favor of food = health recovery myself. Maybe food could both refill hunger and restore health - wouldn't be too hard to do, methinks! =D Food Preferences: great. I like that. Could you possibly choose a basic food category at character creation, or would that be random? Um I don't know =D which would be better, d'ya think? =o Voiceovers: Well, you may need several "voice actors." I've played low budget games with only one or two people doing all voices for all cinematics and effects - it sounds horrible. Yeah, I'm trying to get in touch with some friends, so there'll be more than just two people ^_^; ..if i can ever get them to talk to me that is XD Friendships: Did I not hear that was in a new video game... what was it called... No idea o_o; Anyway, I like those. It could get trick to implement some of them, though. (Friendships primarily) Friendships shouldn't actually be that tough, I'm more worried about doing the cinematics and voice acting XD |

Hunger: I dropped it myself in favor of food = health recovery myself.
Jobs: sound like minigames or repeated quests - good idea.
Food Preferences: great. I like that. Could you possibly choose a basic food category at character creation, or would that be random?

Drawing a blank.
Anyway, I like those. It could get trick to implement some of them, though. (Friendships primarily)
