The problem is that nobody needs to know you. They will judge you based on your responses on the internet, and that is all anyone needs. I doubt "stepping in your shoes" for a week would change anything, because they would be in your position BUT with their own decisions they make.

We are all different, and can (should) be categorized by those differences... It is only natural... It is how our brains view everything... Everything gets a label based on its traits... And all of these things get placed into smaller and smaller "boxes" as we get more and more specific... Again, this is how we store every bit of information that goes into our brains, and how our brains retrieve this data later... I am a caucasian, male, heterosexual, atheist, American... And there's nothing wrong with that... But that's the key... The solution is not to ignore the differences, and pretend to all be the same... the solution is to realize that the differences are nothing more than varying states of a handful of traits we all possess... It's alright to have Black Entertainment Television, it's alright to have Black History Month, it's alright to have Black Music Awards, it's alright to have Black [fill in the blank]...
But, it's not alright to have the "whites-only" equivalents of any of those...
Why? It's all about which side is the minority... Minority groups can be given special treatment because they're already underpriveleged... Give those same "perks" to the majority group, and you're now giving them more "superiority" over the minorities...
Basically, these sorts of things are like weapons... It's alright to arm the minorities with them, because it helps to close the gap with the majority... Arming the majority is wrong, because it only extends the gap...
"Gay Pride" doesn't weaken heterosexuals, it strengthens homosexuals... "Straight pride" doesn't strengthen heterosexuals (since that is not necessary), it weakens homosexuals...
And hence, it is "wrong"... They might appear to be the same, but they have a subtle, yet distinct difference... One is a positive force, and the other is negative...
Please note, though, that I'm all for complete equivalency... No one should be treated any differently than anyone else, regardless of any trait (skin color, nationality, sexual preference, gender, etc, etc), but we're all still wired to think with the above lines drawn in the sand...
