Ive just begun work on a future based rpg, which I have named 2280. I want it to work similar to your basic rpg, level up stats, get stronger, get new things...etc. But I'd like a few things to set it aside from your average hack n slash. Anyone have any ideas I could use in it? Thanks,

Anthony
Make it have a turnbased tactical system. So it'd be kind of like Starcraft.

If people want to play Starcraft, then they will play Starcraft.

By that I meant the future esque, not exactly like Starcraft.

Notice how I said "kind of"? Because I sure as hell do not want to play another hack and slash game where I sit there and hold one stupid button and kill eighty robots to level up.

If he decides to take the tactical approach, of course it'll have some similarities to Starcraft. Even if they're small little minor ones. The main reason I assume this is because it's based in the future. So before you decide to troll, make you sure you up your reading comprehension.

Also, if I remember correctly, Starcraft was real time, not turnbased.

I'm actually probably gonna go with a turn based battle system. I'm going to have it similar to the way Soul Society's works I think, unless I come up with something else.

I wonder how hack and slash works in the future, seeing that right now the most popular weapons are projectile weapons.

I'm not sure how I would make a hack n slash in the future, one of the reasons that I'm doing it turn based, some others being that most BYOND games are hack n slash, there are a few exceptions FF and Soul Society, and both of those are great games. Plus I usually enjoy turn based games more.

If you want to make it part hack n slash, you could add some futuristic melee weapons such as laser swords, chainsaws, or others.

Energy Swords!

Futuristic games with melee weapons often make the assumption that force fields can stop projectiles but not swords.

Either that or the guns are all retro and crap. =)

Since when were chainsaws futuristic??

Wha'? I didn't say anything about chainsaws. Reply to the right post next time, please.

Since when are chainsaws futuristic??!!??

Yeah....by future I meant...future...not present...but future... :P

I'm talking about energy chainsaws (not the ones of present day where its just metal). =P Use imagination for that.
