Yeah, you hate it, but meanwhile, other people actually take the time to tell me how to change it, y'know, -give me some advice-, and if you don't like that it's related to Harry Potter, get over it, because if it wasn't relevant to the Harry Potter storyline, it would be a different game, now wouldn't it?
This topic is about "Hogwarts Student". If you want to play a game where you get trained as a Jedi, you make it on your own time.

That said, I love games where you get trained to be a Jedi!

Oh, shut up . . .

I plan on picking this up again; please ignore my patronizing and closed-minded attitude in previous posts as I was, at the time, a seventh grader.
I'm coming into this with a fresh attitude and a will to make it fun. First off, it will be a sidescroller. Second, I have half a mind to take it back about sixty years and make it about Grindewald, but I won't. Third, I'll be making it less boring. Focus will be on the more exciting stuff such as Quiddich, and, as was suggested to me earlier in this thread, getting into trouble will be encouraged, and will be a great adventure in the game. Completion of education and a career in the wizarding world will still be encouraged, but will be made more entertaining and exciting. |

You brought back a thread from two years ago? I would've just made another thread :S
Also note that a seventh and ninth grader aren't all that different. I myself am a senior and haven't changed much attitude-wise since my 6th grade year, if anything I've gotten more bitter; but if you say your attitude has changed I suppose I will take your word for it, good luck on your game >_>(or whatever it is, I'm assuming its a game because you said quiddich and sidescroller) |

A normal person looks back on themselves every couple years and says, "Goddamn was I a stupid, immature piece of crap. Good thing I'm not like that any more!"

I'd actually say this statement is mostly true. Not so much on the "Yay I'm not stupid or immature anymore", for me it is "Yay I'm not THAT stupid or immature anymore." |

I believe it completely destroys any sort of immersion you could have in the game. A sidescrolling school... Egh. It just doesn't work in my mind. Second, I have half a mind to take it back about sixty years and make it about Grindewald, but I won't. ...If you're not going to make it about harry potter then why would you make it about any given key person in the history of the lore. Third, I'll be making it less boring. Focus will be on the more exciting stuff such as Quiddich, and, as was suggested to me earlier in this thread, getting into trouble will be encouraged, and will be a great adventure in the game. See this is troublesome to me. If you are already saying your game design is going to be boring and you haven't even gotten it going yet, then you're off to a bad start. For 1: Since when has casting spells ever been boring? What the hell? For 2: Quiddich is the only part of this idea that I could see a side scroller actually working well on. And as for the trouble.. So this is going to be side-scrolling Bully with spells. I personally would encourage more freedom than just 'getting in trouble'... Besides, getting in trouble is never something anyone actually WANTS to do unless you have attention problems. Breaking the rules is the point... Completion of education and a career in the wizarding world will still be encouraged, but will be made more entertaining and exciting. I don't know how you see Harry Potter, but I have to say that coming from the mundane world I live in, I would gladly accept bookwork for learning how to USE MAGIC. If you are concerned about making MAGIC 'more exciting' then I don't think you're making it right in the first place. Anyway~ If you're gunna do this, please... pleaaase don't use verbs. I know this sounds stupid, and probably appeals to absolutely nobody but me, but I would much rather have to type a spell than scroll through a list of 5509234 verbs to find the one I want. |

I thought that a sidescroller would work much better than an overhead view, but I'll figure that later.
Anyway, let me just put it like this: the game will be prettymuch limitless. There will be new challenges and possibilities no matter what you chose to do in the game. And god no, I won't be verbs. Yes, it will most likely be a text entry thing. Just for the hell of it I might add something where if you haven't been taught or read about a particular spell, and you try that spell, the spell will go wrong. |

On a Harry Potter project I abandoned a while ago, I was using mouse gestures to cast spells. Make every spell different and you've got a fun game that requires real talent to play. |

That's not a half bad idea; if you're fine with it, I may use that.

AND IF YOU'RE GOING TO SAY MAKE IT UNRELATED TO HARRY POTTER, SHUT THE @#& UP!
Happy Holidays!
