There's no feasible way to stop people making infinite amounts of keys. That's one of the beautiful things about the internet- we can be pretty much totally anonymous if we want to be. Unfortunately as you've experienced, it can be a double edged sword. Thats what you'd do? Elation...Ignore them and let them continue to play the game...Why are so many solutions on the boards to "ignore" and let the immoral prevail? |

If they're just playing the game then why not? =P If they're spamming, build an anti-spam device into your game. If they're calling other players nasty names, implement a way for players to ignore other people's chat. If they're abusing bugs, fix the bugs! |

Perhaps you should incorporate a different banning procedure. That should stop him, if only for a little while.

Domedaydevice141 suggested: MAKING KEYS FOR HIM IS PRETTY EASY , WE NEED HARDER REGISTRATION RULES It's not letting the immoral prevail. Short of requiring valid credit card info to verify identity (which I hope most of us wouldn't want), there's not much you can do. An even stricter registration process would have even more people that are new to byond less inclined to through with registering to try out a game. |

If message length > 1000 or so, boot player.
If message is the same as last message, add +1 to repeat count. If repeat count > 2, boot player. |

If you host in BYOND 4.0 with Dream Daemon, or even if you just set up the ban in Dream Daemon and make it a sticky ban, then later host in DS, you should be able to catch alternate keys better than you can with simpler methods.

I can't get v4 powers as i am using a shell server from HyperByond... so I guess, Best thing i see is to increse spam protection, but that also pushs people away as it often messes up game play... Is their a possible way for byond to banned this player , if alot of developer asked ??? |
You're not gonna be able to ban this guy permanently no matter you do -- as long as he tries, you have to try. Spamming, however, is very fixable:
1) Detect/limit spamming. Filter line breaks. Limit line lengths if you want. Strip HTML. Detect lots of sending in a small amount of time. Finding repeated messages is a bad idea, because someone could just alternate the spam messages. 2) Fix the problem and stop his messages. Mute him. Let other players ignore him. Stop his messages from getting out. You don't need to boot him, and that's just gonna be annoying. 3) Don't screw non-spammers over. If your spam filter bans you from the game for saying "no" 3 times in rapid succession, this is not good. If you limit how people chat, people like your game less. But it's really your call there. |
Well you could still IP ban him, even with a proxy, all it is, is filtering his IP into like a pool with tons of other IP addresses.
You could set up a IP ban range, so that an IP number within a certain rage cannot connect. Obviously with this way though, you will be inadvertently punishing other users. But I mean, out of that IP range, what is the chance a bunch of those people are going to be from BYOND? If that doesn't work, you could just ban every single IP in the proxy server he is using. |

If such a case does happen, you could always do Hiead's method of displaying a message to the other users stating that "this user has exceeded the character limit by [msglength-maxlength]. Click here to view the message". |

If such a case does happen, you could always do Hiead's method of displaying a message to the other users stating that "this user has exceeded the character limit by [msglength-maxlength]. Sorry, I actually only go with about 200 character limit length on public chat, there isn't really any need for someone to be pouring out huge sentences like that if it isn't an actual chat room. On the other hand, private say and tells have no character limit.

For any meaningful communication to be possible, you have to go upwards of at least 400 or more. The Voice of Duh has spoken! Lummox JR |

The only thing you can do is just ignore him and make sure your game stops people from doing things like spamming. Like you said- if he's that immature, he'll just get bored and move on.
