Well, I am trying to make a new game, but I just want some ideas on what type of game I should make, and what type of game most of you guys would like to play.

It shouldnt matter as much as to what -we- want to play - but what you want to make! (Side-scrollers are basically impossible in BYOND, though.)

basically, but not.
i want yall to tell me, cause i dont wanna make a kind of game nobody wants to play. |
I've found that taking your cues from someone else usually results in you losing motivation for the project in question. Hence a lot of situations $$$ is included as an external motivator.

I want my game to be free completely, no paying to do anything more, and not having to be a byond member to do any more.
Also, I won't quit making it, as it will be my first actual project in the first place. |

Or he can design it as a mini game in his game :P
It worked well for most pokemon games, including mine, haha. |

Then you're either not dropping enough $$$, or not leading them properly. The latter wouldn't be a surprise, it's like herding cats.

Xooxer made a side-scroller test Question is, when? Because only in a certain v4.0 build update we gained the ability to exceed 10FPS and determine FPS as we wish, which makes those kind of things possible to pull off nicely (though mostly still single-player only, in multiplayer it'd lag considerably for common usage). |

Now that /client.pixel_x and client.pixel_y exist, creating a sidescroller on BYOND is feasible. Kajika made a wonderful example, via Megaman, here.

Oh yeah, that too, although it only helps with smoothness when moving between tiles. =P

Defend the "blah" styles games should be easy and fun. The world could use some more variations of them.
Byond could use some more interesting board games. Some how, a lot of board games don't translate well online though. Something about the lack of human interaction. There's nothing wrong with copying an existing board game though. Pac-Man might be fun. I don't think I've seen that done yet. Anyone? How about games like Donkey Kong, LoadRunner, Frogger, or even Centipede might be possible. tsfreaks |

I am looking to make multi-player games.
I would still need help with getting the "Computer Players" to work correctly though. Also, I don't have the icons for it, nor anybody to icon for me. I will be looking for people to icon for me, and I will then choose which project is good for me to make at that time. In any case, I don't have much of ideas of my own at the moment, so things posted here are more likely to be made than anything else. |

My advice to someone who has never completed a byond game is this.
1. Start simple 2. Start small 3. Clone something which meets 1 & 2. I have plenty of experience of thinking up neat and mostly original ideas for byond games. I have a hand full of monstrously awesome games... that I have yet to finish. I'm not you of course but I personally keep falling into endless feature creep and out of control complexity problems. Add that with my weak coding skills and you get a bunch of unfinished projects. I recommend going for a bunch of solid small simple games that lead up to you eventually tackling a monstrosity. I may have to reset myself and do the same thing to regain some confidence. tsfreaks |
If you still don't have any ideas, I think sci-fi games are underrepresented on BYOND. I would love a ground combat game, a tactical space battle game, or a team-based space shooter.

I think it's safe to say a platformer is BYOND the reach of Superbike at the moment, though. Heck, I had (/am having; I got bored with that project) a hard time with platforming, mostly because I couldn't figure out why it let players spam more than 1 movement in a tick. This was probably a stupid mistake though, so I might go back to the project eventually.
