Concepts for trade skills? These are mine (Leaving out the explanation for the obvious ones) Any ideas for extra ones would be appreciated
Alchemy (creation of potions and alchemic artifacts. advanced alchemists with the aid of magical devices can perform transmutations. Very limited what they can do, very draining, etc. (Maybe a different skill for the next part:) Ability to identify magical properties in an object. Ability to enhance magical properties in objects.)
Cooking (Brewing alcohol, baking food, butchering meat, cooking all sorts of food.)
Fishing. ... Fishing... You fish... for fish..
Bowyer (Making bows. Yey.)
Jewelcrafting (Crafting... jewels... But really: identify jewels, their quality, etc)
Tailor (Sewing, leatherworking, making teh clotheses...)
Herbalism (Identifying wild herbs, growing said herbs in the not-wild... identifying what they are and can do, etc)
Farming (Growing/planting anything that ISNT a wild herb. Harvesting can be done by anyone though, except in special circumstances)
Mining (Speed at which you mine, ability to take down hard/difficult cave walls, identify different types of ores and their purity)
Masonry (Crafting sculptures or tools out of rocks.)
Smithing (Making things out of ores. All different types of ores (silver, gold, iron, etc) handled by one skill)

Im pretty sure a bow maker is a bowyer, and fletching is just the feathery stuff on the end.

Carpentry/Wood Cutting is one I don't see, and taming.
Let me go a step further and suggest you have several colors of magic. Perhaps white and black for healing and damaging respectively. Then you could have some other colors, like red for buffs, and blue for summoning. Blue could even let you animate things! See that pile of iron ore? Turn it into an iron golem! Oh and another cool thing would be to have meteorites strike fairly randomly somewhere on the planet. You could call them Daemon stone and they'd obviously be a perks only ore. Alright, I'm done being a butt. Try to be inventive, you have a decent list but all of that has been done. Maybe make all the trade skills interactive! |
Charm and thief
whats a good skill set if i cant rob a person, then charm the local shop keeper to give sell me a 300zillion dollar sword for a buck. |

And the colors of magic is a must, but I don't necessarily like how theirs are organized. And the animating golems thing is cool, but I think it should be a bit more complex than that. And the meteorites/daemon ore thing... Directly taken from RPGWO. Just like the phrase 'perks'. lol. Don't get me wrong, thats a great game, and I get much of my inspiration for any project from them, but carbon copying is a bit much. Thanks for the input though. |
Haha, I wasn't meaning for you to really do those things. I was leading up to trying to be more original.

But you have to realize that every game (even RPGWO... well especially RPGWO) has inspiration from another source, mostly other games. The only non game influence most magic related games get is greek mythology. Other than that pretty much everyone looks to D&D for ideas. To be blunt I feel that the different ideas of things to include in a game are running out, and now it is time to have different applications of the same concepts in new and unique ways. |
