Hello, I've recently started up with my one piece game again and thought i would make some changes to the original manuscript, especially the way of transportation.

Now this being a One Piece game i believe the whole idea is to let them roam around the seas in their own ships. However, i thought i would try something else.

Also, this game will be more Combat based than Adventure oriented, so with that in the back i think it might work out well.

Basically I'm thinking of making a more static way of transportation. having "stations", typically docks since this game is all about seatravel. and just have a link-system where people can travel between different islands in a more "teleported" fashinon. Now, in general i do not think this is such a bad idea, but i think i might be removing too much of the "game".

If it is unclear what it is i mean by this i'll give examples of these trasnportation methods:

1. Runescape, for those who have played it, when traveling between islands etc..

2. Assasins Creed 2, for those who have played it, fast travel option at the horse-stalls near the city gates.

3. Oblivion, Fast travel by clicking on the flagged location on the map.

Now alternatively i have these lined up:

1. Having ships you can use and sail in a 32x32 format where you enter the ship and get relocated to the "ship interiour" where you can use and sail it. This is the easyest way if i where to have ships that can be controlled by players.(form my point of view).

2. Having ships fairly well sized, having people boarding them and travel with them. This is kinda what i want to avoid, since i believe it to be a pain in the ass.

- Having railings and such dense without there being "overlaps" between the sea and boat, or railings and floor etc.

- And basically alot of other functionalities to take care of.

3. A combination of my Static Transportation program, For those who do not wish to spend loads of time traveling between islands and nr. 2. with nr.2 being smaller sized boats possibly rafts with room for 3-9 players.

- Boats costing [something more] with a certain durability. as a one time fee.

- Fast travel option costing [something less], but something you have to pay each time you travel.

Any thoughts on what would be the best option or other ideas are appriciated :)
I think that you should implement both forms of travel. I hate WoW with everything in me, but the quick travel system in the game is pretty much what you need. You jump on a boat, wait a few seconds, and boom your thousands of miles away.

If your game is going to have quests in it, I highly suggest a quick travel system as it can get very annoying driving your slow boat, especially once the quests lead to different islands, countries, etc.

You can even add a mini-game to driving the boat in order to make it fun.
