What do you think thin is the best way of leveling up is
the XP Based way which about every rpg and mmorpg uses
Or The grid way
Were you kill a monster and get a "grid points" with can by use to unlock your skills and stat bonus like FF X and FF XIII

Both ways are stupid and unoriginal and so played out its ridiculous.
They were bad ideas even when they weren't played out. |

I wrote a blog post on this quite some time ago, perhaps this would be of use to you.

Do what all the famous MMOs do: Both.
they allow you to level up and become stronger while also getting points towards skills. I would do this as well in my game but, I'm going with something semi-original |
XP Based leveling systems mixed with the Skill Point system is, in my opinion, the best option there is to go with. There are actually several reasons for this. 1, Players enjoy seeing a little flash on the screen that pops up "Level Up!". It gives them a sense of satisfaction that they just accomplished something concrete, and are definably getting better. People like to feel superior to others, weather by skills, levels, gear, whatever. Without an XP based level system, players typically get bored quickly, due to the lack of purpose in the game. On the flip side, gaining a level after killing a certain boss would be an awful way of handling levels. When you do that, it stops feeling like an RPG, and more like a linear plot game. A reason that I'm not a huge fan of the Final Fantasy games, however they are all excellent games. As for the Skill Point System, that's not so much of a progression as it is a customization. Being able to have 5 Mages in a group and each one specializing in a different type of ability can be extremely fun. You play how you want, not how the game tells you that your class behaves. This also adds to the classes replay-ability factor, meaning players will be able to play through the same class twice and it be a different experience.

1)Set bosses once killed "You gain a level"
2)XP base
3)Grid where you unlock your stats based on points from monsters
4)Don't gain XP from monsters only from quests(spin to option 2)
